Last week, my sister and I saw a tiny baby kitten running in the street, just a block away from Saddle Creek. We asked a friend to put out food for him, and the next day, we were able to catch him. While my sister cat-proofed her house, we brought him to mine, put together a room for him, and got to work acclimating him to the indoors.
Jesse (after the Breaking Bad character) was very scared when we first brought him home. We couldn't get close to him without him hissing. He was also very underweight, so one of the first things we did was feed him. As soon as he started eating, he started purring, and he hasn't stopped since! He came around to us really quickly after that, and by the end of the week he was crawling into our laps and stretching up to ask for forehead kisses.
I haven't lived with a cat since my childhood cat, Max, passed away when I was in middle school. Jesse looks a LOT like him, and even acts like him. He's incredibly affectionate, goofy and playful, and WILL take food straight off your plate if you aren't quick enough. I like to think Max the cat brought Jesse to us, and I am so grateful.
Jesse went home yesterday. I miss him a lot, but he is happy in his new home with Abby, her boyfriend (also named Max!), their roommates, a dog, and another kitten for him to play with. I loved taking care of him this week, and I will cherish the memory for a long time.
This is more emotional than my other posts here, but I couldn't post him without telling (the good parts of) his story! I'm hoping that him coming into our lives is the start of a new, better chapter.
