This write up below is just as true for any breed! ❤️ A dog is a responsibility. Their life is in your hands. If they do something "wrong", it is always your fault. I think this is the best way to look at canine behavior. I heard one time that the only thing you can't teach a dog is to stay out of the garbage, so put a lid on it. I try to live by this. To take it a step further, their genetics and health is a breeder's responsibility. If they develop an avoidable and inherited health condition, have bad joints, etc, that is the breeder's fault. I say this all the time.... If you don't pay for a health tested, well bred purebred dog up front, you will pay for it later in medical bills. Even worse, your dog will pay for it in pain, suffering, and a shorter life. There's so much to getting a healthy puppy and getting it off to a great start. A quality breeder is the place to start.
My Philosophy on Buying/Raising a Giant Schnauzer by Sharon Burns
Every Moment spent researching a breeder from whom your puppy will be purchased will be rewarded with countless hours…perhaps a lifelong mentorship.
Every Moment spent researching pedigrees, titles, health certifications, structure, temperament, etc. will result in an investment in a quality dog and the future of the breed.
Every Moment spent Imprinting a puppy/young dog with correct behavior will eliminate countless hours of trying to undo bad behaviors
Every Moment spent teaching a puppy/young dog to develop its “thinking” skills will result in a dog capable of “working out” puzzling requests and choosing the right behavior in unusual circumstances.
Every Moment spent socializing your puppy/young dog will be repaid tenfold in an adult dog that can be taken anywhere and behave well around people and other dogs.
Every Moment spent giving a puppy/young dog quality exercise will result in a healthier, happier, longer lived pet and owner.
Every Moment spent using motivational training will result in the reduction or elimination of moments spent using negative reinforcement training techniques.
Every Penny spent on quality preventative health-care and quality food will result in significant dollar savings over the life of the pet and a healthier longer lived pet.
Every Moment of quality time spent with a puppy or young dog will result in countless hours of quality time with your dog throughout its life.
Every Moment spent mentoring other Giant Schnauzer owners will result in a lifetime of learning, growth, friendships, and of course the love of many Giant Schnauzers.
