Just a few notes that I thought I would share! Borrowed from a friend ..
Itβs that time of year again. I always write tips on hunting your dogs.
Things to remember, first these new dogs havenβt had 8 guys shooting 3 1/2s over their head!! No matter how well trained he is, if pup has never hunted, pup doesnβt know how to hunt. Check your eago!!
1 carry pup to the blind before season and run him how you will hunt him. Decoys and all.
2 TIE HIS ASS TO THE BLIND!! All dogs will break at the right time. Now is not the time to be heavy on the collar while he is learning to hunt.
3 try to kill your cripples at first, especially if he doesnβt get a lot of birds.
4 Be willing to go help him get a bird and throw as a happy bird if need be.
5 always keep a bumper in the blind so when things get slow.
6 make him mind. No matter how good he retrieves, nobody wants to hunt with a out of control dog.
7 if you brag be ready to eat crow:)
8 like a kid, it needs to be fun
Or he wonβt want to come back.
9 never fails!! Trainers the weak dog you train and try to take that phone
Call in the closet will kill it!!! They will will brag he is the baddest SOB ON THE PLANET. The badass dog you trained that you put the call on speaker in the crowded restaurant or lodge.....all you will here is very loudly he SUCKSπππ
10. Prepare yourself the best you can and expect nothing lol. Itβs there first hunt!!!! You will have years of memorable hunts hopefully, so have a sense of humor and show that dog how to hunt but more importantly how to love to hunt.
Remember you have to train a hunting dog and hunt a trained dog.
Please be safe and see what Iβve spent my life doing and loving. Hunt a dog. He will be a best friend forever and one day that goofy puppy will have to lay in the bed with that grey face and sore body while you take the new guy again. Have a happy hunting season.
