Fiona Apple is available for adoption at The Spca In Cattaraugus County! She did great on the pack walk today. She’s definitely a bit of a huntress when it comes to small animals yet she’s here also willing to do anything for a treat & love♥️
Poppy girl here is still just a young lady out and about learning the world with her mom! These free community experiences really help to build stronger confidence in our dogs! Poppy showed that today by hiking with a big old lady dog and hopping through thick brush/weeds (a jungle for a little girl like her!)
We hope Fiona finds her forever home soon as she’s been so so sad while she waits! & we’re always so glad to see new faces like Poppy & Leah come on walks with us! 🐾

Another reactivity session ending on success and a sunset!
Sometimes reactivity stems from fear, sometimes its frustration stemming from excitment, sometimes it’s a mixture - but what we really want to see out of our dogs is neutrality! A calm dog, a dog that acknowledges, and who chooses to follow the guidance of their owner when big emotions arise.
Maple and her people have shown tremendous improvement on neutrality practice since our first session! Such a great family! & then we have Venus as our “strange dog” assistant again!💜💗🐾

I’m calling yesterday “Reactivity Tuesday” 🐶

I had two training sessions yesterday, both of which I got to help these two individual dogs + their people learn how to work through their big emotions (reactivity) when presented with other dogs in their environment. Both “teams” did so great with their dogs! There was a decent amount of practice had and seeing the wheels turn and then connections made on what exactly they’re watching for plus how to overcome specific parts of the reactivity “routine” is why I love being able to help so much. We’re building better relationships over here!

PROPRIOCEPTION 🐾🧠 What is it and why is it important for your dog?

Sometimes labelled “the sixth sense,” proprioception keeps track of where the body (limbs, head, and trunk) is in space (with respect to the surrounding environment). The brain constantly receives updates from sensors, often called proprioceptors, in muscles, joints, tendons, and ligaments. This information tells the brain where different parts of the body are without seeing them. Good proprioception is key to avoiding injury.

Feeling uneven surfaces, allowing their feet to become familiar with unknown and changing textures, allowing their feet to feel on behalf of their body above them, and to carry them safely through the world with constantly calibrating balance and poise.

If your dog is just used to walking flat and straight, it’s high time they dip a toe into texture that makes the most of their incredible natural abilities.

Our dogs were built for so much more.

Another pack walk in the memories! July 27th, 2025 at Pfeiffer Nature Center, Lillibridge property.

Thank you guys so much for coming! We may have been a small pack this time, but we covered some decent trail all together! This was one of those walks where you see actuall learning happening for the dogs. We made new friends, practiced neutrality, how to navigate back to a calm state after a difficult moment, how to comfortably and confidently go on a hike together, communication skills to keep everyone safe including the little Efts everywhere!, and most of all we all learned that walking our dogs all together in the woods is just where we all prefer to be! More hiking trails to come! And if you haven’t joined a pack walk yet, I’d love to see you at the next one!! This is a fun, safe, and great community to learn from!
