WE'RE HIRING: VETERINARY TECHNICIAN & ANIMAL CARE SPECIALIST

The Okmulgee County Humane Society is looking for a compassionate, dedicated animal lover to join our team full-time at our new adoption center!

This hands-on position combines veterinary support, animal care, and shelter operations. Responsibilities include administering vaccines and medications, monitoring animal health, assisting with intakes, maintaining medical records, helping visitors and adopters, and providing daily care for the animals in our shelter.

We're looking for someone who:

🐶 Has experience in veterinary care, animal sheltering, or animal handling
🐱 Is organized, dependable, and comfortable working with the public
💉 Is passionate about animal welfare and humane care
❤️ Wants to make a direct impact in the lives of homeless animals

Jake lost the only home he’s ever known this week when his original owner officially surrendered him back into our care. 😢 Jake was originally adopted from us over 2 years ago but his owner later adopted little chihuahuas which triggered Jake’s high prey drive and caused issues between them and his owner decided he was no longer a good fit for their home. She was trying to foster him until we could find him a new home but it’s taken much longer than we hoped and she felt she had no choice but to relinquish him.

Now, after more than 2 years in a stable loving home, Jake is back with us in boarding, and doesn’t understand why. Please help us find a home for this boy. He’s neutered, UTD on shots, very energetic and would do best in a home with other dogs his size or larger and with land or a big yard to run around in.

Seriously, though. 5,200?

😳 Don’t just do it for the “accidental litters” (but PLEASE, yes). Do it to protect the US Postal Service!

They and fellow service providers deserve safety. And the chance to perform job functions without nipped heels — or worse.

It is simply best for all parties involved for dogs to be safely and lovingly housed behind fences or within homes

… and not out in the wild great outdoors having relations/accidental litters or biting the mail carrier.

There were more than 5,200 dog attacks against postal workers last year, according to new figures released by the U.S. Postal Service on Thursday.

Since January, Willow has been patiently growing up in her foster home, watching her siblings find their families while holding onto hope that her perfect match is still out there.

Biscuit update!

Her foster says she’s been having the BEST time outside playing in the mud and, even better, she’s doing wonderfully with the livestock including goats and even a mini pony!

This sweet 9-month-old lab/hound mix is affectionate, happy, adventurous, and ready for a forever home of her own. She’s still just a puppy with lots of love to give.

Somebody please come meet this girl. She's been vetted, vaxxed and spayed. We truly cannot believe she’s still waiting. 🩷

UPDATE FROM FORMER OKCO RESIDENT SHILOH:

Apparently this is what “having a sister” looks like. 😅

After spending 6 months with us in rescue waiting for her forever home, Shiloh (renamed to Montana) is now living her best life which mostly seems to involve sitting directly on top of her brother for absolutely no reason at all.

We can’t thank her adopter enough for loving this goofy girl and keeping us updated with photos like this. 🥰 Seeing our former rescue animals happy, safe, and being their unapologetically weird selves is truly the dream.

The Okmulgee County Humane Society is looking for a compassionate, organized, people-loving human to join our team as a part-time Program & Outreach Coordinator at our new adoption center!

This role helps manage our foster and volunteer programs while also assisting with community outreach, fundraising events, adoption events, and public engagement.

Responsibilities include:

As we're now finally in the homestretch of the construction of our new adoption center, we are now not only in the very beginning stages of hiring a team, but establishing a solid and reliable base of volunteers as well.
