Here's a fact about siberian huskies science can't even explain: Siberian huskies can sprint for hours upon hours, without food, and without tapping into their bodies' glycogen (carbohydrates) or fat stores. How do they burn so many calories without using their reserves? They must regulate their metabolisms for performance.

Keep in mind: If we humans attempted to run for hours without any source of energy, we'd fatigue pretty quickly—and have to stop.

Siberian Huskies were bred to run for long distances with minimal food supplies, so it makes sense that their bodies have evolved to perform with hardly any fatigue. But it's still pretty amazing, right? 👍

✨New Year, Rules Reminder!✨

As we kick off a brand new year with MASH, we just want to take a moment to thank you all for helping keep our events fun, safe & welcoming for everyone — humans & dogs alike!

Before attending any MASH event, please be sure to review the Group Rules in the MASH Facebook group & the details listed in each individual event.

A few key reminders:

🐾 All dogs must remain on leash at all times
(Preferably no retractable leashes)

🐾 Please be mindful of your dog & avoid nose-to-nose greetings with other dogs

🐾 For safety, we recommend 1–2 dogs max per person

🐾 Each attendee is responsible for knowing & following the rules of each location we visit

These guidelines help keep everyone comfortable & ensure our pack stays happy, safe & stress-free.

If you ever have questions, feel free to comment or message a MASH admin — we’re always happy to help!

With winter storms rolling in, here are a few simple but important ways to keep our northern breed dogs safe, healthy, and comfortable:

1️⃣ Limit Outdoor Time During Extreme Cold
Even cold-loving breeds can get frostbite and hypothermia.
• Shorter potty breaks
• Supervise playtime
• Watch ears, tails, and paws for redness or cracking

2️⃣ Protect Those Paws
Ice melt and salt can burn paw pads.
• Use dog-safe ice melt when possible
• Wipe paws after walks
• Consider paw balm or booties for sensitive feet

3️⃣ Keep Them Dry
Wet fur + cold air = fast heat loss.
• Towel off after snow play
• Pay attention to belly and legs
• Warm up indoors right away

4️⃣ Indoor Enrichment = Sanity Saver
Storm days can mean cabin fever.
• Puzzle toys
• Frozen Kongs
• Sniff games & basic training refreshers
• Hide-and-seek treats

5️⃣ Power Outage Prep
Just in case…
• Extra food & water
• Medications
• Flashlights
• Battery-powered heating source or extra blankets

6️⃣ ID & Microchips Matter
Storms = spooked dogs + open doors.
• Make sure collars fit well
• Tags are readable
• Microchip info is current

7️⃣ Extra Calories (If Active in Snow)
Snow play burns serious energy.
• Slight food increase if activity is higher
• Always provide fresh, unfrozen water

Even our fluffiest snow lovers still rely on us to make good choices for them. Stay warm, stay safe, and give your huskies an extra hug from me 🐾❄️
