📺🍽️ The Remote Wasn’t on the Menu, Louie!

Louie may be the sweetest pug around, but he’s also got legs for DAYS! This adventurous guy was brought to City Paws Urgent Care after Mom suspected he may have ingested a battery after deciding a remote control looked like a tasty snack.

Battery ingestion can be very dangerous. If chewed, batteries can leak corrosive materials and cause serious burns to the mouth, esophagus, and stomach. Because of these risks, Louie’s family did exactly the right thing by bringing him in right away.

Our team quickly obtained radiographs (x-rays) to look for any batteries or other foreign material. Radiographs are an important diagnostic tool that allow us to see many objects inside the body and help determine the safest next steps for our patients.

The good news? No batteries were found! 🎉

While visiting us, Louie spent his time making best friends with his technician, Britt, who quickly fell for his sweet personality and adorable face. We think he was trying to distract us from his questionable dining choices. ❤️🐾

We’re happy to report that Louie went home battery-free, and we hope he’s officially retired from his career as a remote control taste tester! 📺😂

Meet Honk! 🐱

This adorable little stray kitten was brought to us by a pair of wonderful Good Samaritans after they noticed goopy eyes and a very distinctive cough. After hearing him, we’d say the name “Honk” makes perfect sense now! 😹

If you’re wondering why Honk is wrapped up like a tiny kitty burrito in his photo, it’s because he was a little nervous during his visit. Wrapping anxious kittens snugly in a towel is a fear-free handling technique that helps them feel more secure and comfortable while allowing our team to safely perform an exam and diagnostics with as little stress as possible. 🌯🐾

To help determine what might be causing his symptoms, our team performed a Feline Triple SNAP Test. This test is completed using a small blood sample and screens for three important feline diseases: Feline Leukemia Virus (FeLV), Feline Immunodeficiency Virus (FIV), and Heartworm disease. These illnesses can significantly impact a kitten’s health and future care needs, making early testing an important step when evaluating stray or newly adopted cats.

The good news? Honk’s test was negative across the board! 🎉

Because every kitten deserves the best start possible, his rescuers elected to take home flea and tick prevention to help protect him from unwanted parasites. Their next step will be establishing care with a regular veterinarian for vaccinations, routine wellness care, and all the love this little guy deserves.

A huge thank you to the Good Samaritans who stopped to help this sweet kitten. Acts of kindness like this truly make a difference. ❤️

Mara Was Definitely Not Herself… 🐾😵‍💫

Sweet Mara came to see us after suddenly developing ataxia (wobbliness), hyper-reactivity, and seeming unable to stay awake. Her family knew something wasn’t right, and we’re very glad they brought her in quickly for evaluation and supportive care.

Toxin exposures in pets can cause a wide variety of neurologic and gastrointestinal symptoms depending on what was ingested. Signs can include stumbling, lethargy, vomiting, unusual behavior changes, exaggerated reactions to sounds or touch, and difficulty staying alert. Even small amounts of certain substances can affect pets much more severely than people.

To help support Mara while her body recovered, she received subcutaneous fluids to help hydrate her and assist in flushing her system, along with an anti-emetic injection to help settle her GI tract and control nausea. 💧💕

Thankfully, Mara was able to rest comfortably while receiving care — although we’re fairly certain she spent at least part of the evening questioning the existence of gravity. 😅

We’re so happy this sweet girl is doing better and getting back to her normal self! 🧡🐾

Blueface Had a Very Personal Problem… 😬🐾

Sweet Blueface came to see us after developing a swollen sc***um that was causing discomfort and concern for his family. Swelling in this area can happen for a variety of reasons including inflammation, infection, trauma, or other underlying issues, and it’s definitely not something owners should ignore if they notice changes.

After evaluation, the best recommendation for Blueface moving forward was neutering, which can help prevent ongoing discomfort and reduce the risk of future complications related to the testicles and surrounding tissues.

We know Blueface may not have loved hearing the treatment plan… but unfortunately sometimes “losing the boys” is truly in a pet’s best medical interest. 😅✂️

Thankfully, Blueface was an excellent patient during his visit, and we’re so happy his family brought him in to get checked out quickly! 💙

Penny Brought Her Emotional Support Bottle Cap… 🍼🐾

Sweet Penny came to see us after experiencing ongoing vomiting, diarrhea, decreased appetite, and not wanting to drink despite already being seen by her regular veterinarian. Bloodwork and radiographs had already been performed and thankfully no major abnormalities were noted, but Penny continued feeling crummy and needed additional supportive care.

Our team placed an IV catheter so Penny could receive anti-emetic medication to help control her nausea and vomiting before she was transferred to our Emergency Care team for overnight hospitalization and IV fluids.

One of the biggest benefits of having both our Urgent Care and Emergency Care working together is how seamless transfers can be for continued care. Instead of starting all over somewhere new, patients can transition directly from our Urgent Care to our ER team with communication already in place between doctors and staff, helping provide smoother and more efficient care for both pets and owners. 💙

Now… we DO NOT normally recommend chewing on foreign objects — especially tiny bottle caps 😅 — but Penny was VERY attached to her emotional support bottle cap and honestly seemed much calmer carrying it around. We may not approve medically… but emotionally? It was apparently essential. 😂

We’re so happy Penny got the extra care she needed! 🧡🐾

🐱🧡 Happy National Hug Your Cat Day! 🧡🐱

Today we’re celebrating one of our favorite forms of medicine: a little extra love.

Whether it’s snuggling our own cats at home or comforting feline patients during their visit, our team knows that sometimes a gentle hug, a soft purr, and a reassuring touch can make all the difference. While medicine, diagnostics, and treatments are incredibly important, we believe emotional comfort matters too.

Cats may not always show affection in the same ways dogs do, but when they choose to trust us with a head bump, a slow blink, or a cuddle, it’s something we never take for granted. Our goal at City Paws is to make every cat feel as safe, comfortable, and stress-free as possible during their visit.

So today, if your cat is willing, give them an extra hug, a favorite treat, or a cozy spot in the sun. (And if your cat prefers personal space, a respectful slow blink counts too! 😉)

Drop a photo of your feline friend in the comments—we’d love to celebrate them with you! 🐾

📦🐾 Happy Inventory Manager Day! 🐾📦

Today we’re celebrating the one who keeps City Paws running smoothly behind the scenes — our amazing Inventory Manager, Kamber! 🧡

From making sure we never run out of the supplies our patients need, to keeping our shelves organized and our teams stocked and ready for anything, Kamber is an essential part of what makes City Paws successful. Whether it’s medications, medical supplies, office necessities, or those little things no one realizes we need until they’re gone, she somehow always stays one step ahead.

Inventory management isn’t always glamorous, but it is absolutely critical, and Kamber handles it with dedication, organization, and a whole lot of heart. Her hard work helps our doctors, technicians, assistants, and CSRs focus on what matters most: caring for pets and the people who love them.

Kamber, thank you for everything you do for our team, our patients, and our hospital. We appreciate you more than words can say! 🐱🐶🧡

Drop a 🐾 in the comments to help us celebrate Kamber today! 🎉

Pumpkin Said “We Need to Talk About My Bladder…” 🧡🐾

Sweet Pumpkin came to see us after experiencing inappropriate urination for about a week, which then progressed into straining to urinate, frequent urgency, dribbling urine, and only producing very small amounts at a time. Urinary issues like these can become very uncomfortable very quickly and should always be evaluated promptly.

To help determine what was going on, our team performed an ultrasound so we could safely obtain a sterile urine sample through a procedure called a cystocentesis. This allows us to collect urine directly from the bladder for the most accurate testing possible. Bloodwork was also performed to help evaluate Pumpkin’s overall health and urinary system.

Pumpkin received both a steroid injection and antibiotic injection while in clinic and was sent home with additional steroids and antibiotics to continue treatment and help keep her feeling more comfortable. 💕

We’re happy Pumpkin’s family trusted us to help take care of her — because nobody enjoys feeling like they need to p*e every 30 seconds. 😅

Freckles Had Quite the Plot Twist… 🐾👀

Sweet Freckles came to see us after her new owner found her as a stray and wanted to make sure this adorable girl was healthy and doing well. Unfortunately, Freckles did not have a microchip, which is such an important reminder about why microchipping your pets — and keeping that information updated — matters so much.

Microchips are a permanent form of identification that can help reunite lost pets with their families if they are ever separated. Shelters and veterinary clinics can scan the chip and contact the registered owner, but the information only works if it’s current! A quick update to your phone number or address can make all the difference in getting your loved one back home safely. 🧡

Freckles had previously been seen at a local veterinary clinic where there was concern she could possibly be pregnant, so her new owner brought her to us for answers. Using ultrasound, our team scanned her abdomen and were happy to confirm that Freckles was NOT pregnant! 🎉

We recommended follow-up care with her primary veterinarian for vaccines, heartworm testing, a f***l exam, and a sedated spay scar investigation to help determine whether this sweet girl may already be spayed.

Needless to say, Freckles was thrilled to learn she’s not expecting puppies… because she’s currently focusing on her new career as a full-time couch ornament instead. 😂🐶
