⛽🐱 Not every hero wears a cape—sometimes they stop at a gas station.

This sweet stray kitty was found limping, and a kind Good Samaritan brought him to City Paws Urgent Care to make sure he was okay. After taking radiographs (X-rays), we were relieved to find that he didn’t have any broken bones!

He went home with pain medication to help him stay comfortable while he heals. Sometimes all it takes is a little kindness to change an animal’s day—and maybe even their life. 🧡

As for the gas station? We think he was just trying to redeem his rewards points for treats. 😸⛽

🐱🎓 Some patients insist on acting like distinguished gentlemen… and Miyagi understood the assignment.

Miyagi came to see us after developing patchy, scaly areas on his skin and licking himself more than usual for the past 3–4 weeks. After his exam, we determined the culprit was ringworm—a fungal skin infection (despite the name, it isn’t caused by a worm!).

Ringworm is important to diagnose because it can spread to other pets and even to people, especially children or anyone with a weakened immune system. The good news is we were able to start Miyagi on an antifungal medication to get him on the road to recovery.

Throughout his visit, Miyagi sat in his chair looking like he was about to defend his doctoral dissertation. We considered asking him to clock in and help see patients. 🎓😸

🐶💤 Dos may have been the sleepiest little puppy around, but her tummy definitely wasn’t happy.

Dos came to see us for diarrhea, so we started by running a parvo test. Luckily, it was negative! 🎉 We also checked a f***l sample, and it turned out her poor little tummy was hosting a whole worm convention. Talk about some uninvited guests! 🤢

The good news is we were able to send Dos home with a dewormer to get rid of those pesky parasites, along with medication to help settle her diarrhea so she can get back to feeling like a playful puppy again.

If your puppy develops diarrhea, don’t wait too long to have them checked—young puppies can become dehydrated quickly, and identifying the cause helps us get them feeling better faster.

🦟🐶 Sometimes a few tiny fleas can cause BIG problems!

Dozer came to see us for allergies and alopecia (hair loss) around his tail and hind end. During his exam, we found the culprit—live fleas! Poor Dozer was suffering from flea bite dermatitis, an allergic reaction to flea saliva that had become so severe it led to a secondary skin infection.

We sent Dozer home with medication to treat the skin infection and NexGard, a monthly flea and tick preventative that helps stop fleas before they can continue the cycle.

Here in Oklahoma, we recommend keeping pets on flea and tick prevention year-round. Fleas have a life cycle of about three months, and our winters typically don’t stay cold long enough to interrupt it. That means fleas can keep reproducing even when you think they’re gone!

The fleas may have thought they found the perfect Airbnb… but checkout time came early. 😎🦟

🦴🐶 Walter ate that bone faster than you can say, “Maybe let’s chew it first!”

Unfortunately, all that excitement led to vomiting and diarrhea. His family also shared that Walter is a nervous guy and had recently had family visiting, so a little extra stress may have contributed to his upset tummy.

Our technician, Britt, made quick friends with Walter and helped him feel safe and comfortable during his visit. ❤️ Walter received an anti-nausea injection to settle his stomach and went home with a fiber supplement and a probiotic. These help by adding bulk to the stool, supporting healthy digestion, and restoring the good bacteria in the gut to get things moving back in the right direction.

Walter learned two important lessons: bones aren’t a speed-eating competition… and sometimes your stomach writes checks your mouth can’t cash. 😅

😿🔍 Cats are masters at hiding when they don’t feel well—and Moxie was no exception.

Moxie came to see us for vomiting, not eating, and being much quieter than normal. Bloodwork showed some electrolyte changes, so we gave her subcutaneous fluids, which are fluids administered just under the skin to help improve hydration and support the body’s recovery. She also received an anti-nausea injection to help stop the vomiting and get her feeling better.

If your cat suddenly becomes less vocal, stops eating, or begins vomiting, don’t ignore those subtle changes—they’re often their way of telling us something isn’t right.

Thankfully, Moxie was feeling better after treatment… and we’re hoping she’ll be back to supervising the household and demanding snacks in no time! 😸

🐶💥 Sibling squabbles can get a little out of hand…

Tyler came to see us after getting into a fight with his housemate. While his lacerations around the mouth were thankfully small enough that they didn’t require stitches, he was missing two incisors! Ouch!

Broken or missing teeth can be very painful because they expose sensitive tissues and can make eating, drinking, and even holding toys uncomfortable. We recommended pain medication to keep him comfortable while he heals.

Thankfully, no surgical repair was needed—but we think these siblings have officially lost their “sharing is caring” privileges. 😅

🩸🐾 One minute everything is fine… the next, it looks like a crime scene!

That’s exactly what happened to Ginger after she broke a nail. While a broken nail may not seem like a big deal, it can be incredibly painful because the nail contains nerves and blood vessels. Even a small break can lead to a lot of bleeding and discomfort.

To keep Ginger comfortable, we gave her a light sedation so we could safely remove the damaged nail without causing additional stress or pain. She went home with pain medication to help her heal comfortably.

The good news? Ginger is on the mend… but she’s definitely adding “no more nail drama” to her list of life goals. 🐾😅

🐱👂 Sometimes an itchy ear is more than just an itch!

CleoCATra was feeling miserable with some of the itchiest ears around. At City Paws Urgent Care, we performed an ear cytology, a quick test where we examine ear debris under a microscope. The results? A party of yeast and ear mites… YUCK! Nobody asked for that invite! 🤢🎉

Luckily, CleoCATra went home with an ear medication to treat the infection and a month’s supply of NexGard Combo. While many people know NexGard Combo for flea and tick prevention, it also helps treat ear mites and protects against several intestinal worms—talk about multitasking!

If your pet is scratching their ears, shaking their head, or has debris or an odor coming from their ears, don’t ignore it. A quick ear exam can make all the difference!

🚨🐾 Meet Luna!

Luna came to see us after hiding, not eating, and crying out in pain. Our team acted quickly and performed a POCUS (Point-of-Care Ultrasound), a quick ultrasound that helped us diagnose a pyometra—a life-threatening infection of the uterus that can develop in unspayed female dogs after a heat cycle.

Because her owners sought care right away, Luna went straight to surgery. We placed an IV catheter (IVC) to provide fluids and medications and ensure immediate IV access throughout anesthesia while we closely monitored her vital signs. She recovered well and went home with pain medication and antibiotics.

The best part? Luna weighed 6.4 pounds when she arrived and 4 pounds after surgery. Talk about taking a load off! 😅

Pyometras are true emergencies, so if your unspayed female dog suddenly becomes lethargic, stops eating, vomits, or seems painful, don’t wait—early treatment saves lives.
