We have quite a few confirmed breedings. I know we aren't supposed to have favorites, but Isabella (Izzy) is definitely a favorite. She's out of Genesis x Bella, a breeding I am repeating. Izzy just scored a GEVE88 as a2 yr old. E in Dairy Strength, V Body Capacity, E Mammary. 36/37/30 (FUA, RUH, RUA). At just 2 years old, she's absolutely on target to break 1000 # milk this year, peaking at 4.8 # as a young 2F, but maintaining a nice volume the entire lactation, not just a flash in the pan. 1st doe will be retained.

Izzy is being bred to Maestro, who has Elite anEX92 Does all over his pedigree!

2025 Linear Appraisal was in September for Ridge. Always so much to learn in this endeavor of trying to breed better & better goats!! I want to thank our appraiser, Cullen Owen, for explaining what he saw so thoroughly!

We only had 6 does in milk this year and only 2 of them are over 2, so a lot of immature animals, but very good to see where they each excel and know what to keep building on.

🌟 Better Wayz Bella 3*M (5F) - GEEE88 with a 34 Foreudder Attachment, 38 in Rear Udder Height, and 35 Rear Udder Arch (34/38/35). E's in Body Capacity, Mammary, and Dairy Strength!

🌟 Better Wayz Zee 5*M (5F) - GGEE87: Praised for her productive & high mammary and her body depth and capacity. (46 Body Depth, 35-36 for each of Strength, Rump Width, RUA, Fore Udder). E's in Mammary and Body Capacity.

🌟 Rockville Ridge GraceZee (2yo FF)- GAVV83 with a 37 in Body Depth as a FF, 34/42/33 (FUA, RUH, RUA). That 42 Rear Udder Height! She's set to break 900 # as a FF - already earned her AR star by 180 days as a FF.

🌟Better Wayz Genesis +*B VEE88 (in rut!) Scored Excellent in Back, Dairy Strength, and Body Capacity. Very good in Rear Legs and Head (and a few others). Overall, very happy with his appraisal considering he was peeing and hunching the whole time!

I am proud of how everyone did! Excited to see Isabella as a Sr. doe in the future! I wish the program was available to all herds that wanted an appraisal every year, but thankful we got a date this year!

I honestly don’t want to let anyone go, but really don’t have room to winter everyone in our tiny barn. 😩 I cut the herd in half last year selling 5 does in milk and have loved who I kept. I have decided to let one of them go with a doeling from this year to make a little room at the feeders.

These two does would make an excellent starter herd and be great for a herd looking for high production and hand milking specifically. Both can be bred to Better Wayz Genesis +*B before leaving if desired.

Both does have been bottle raised and are easy to handle and trained to the milk stand. Whole herd tested this year - negative for CAE and Johnes via F***l PCR.

These girls come with some crazy nice genetics motivated to move! More info under their pictures.

Feeling thankful! We got a date for Linear Appraisals this year! 9/24! Got to get everyone looking good and hoping for some solid scores! We are a host herd for the first time!

Pic of one of the girls I am excited to have appraised again as a more mature doe: Better Wayz Bella 5*M - she got an E in mammary last time, EX88. Not sure I can get as good a fill on her this year and this late in the lactation, but hoping so! 🙏🏼

We made a last minute decision on Thursday to attend the Dairy Goat Society of VA show today and it was such a great day! We earned our first ribbon and honestly, feel a little hooked now! We brought 4 seniors. Everyone but Isabella made it to the championship lineup at least once! 🤩

I love his build and his personality - he’s super chill - knows his job, but doesn’t create a bunch of drama in the buck pen and is so easy to handle!

Mostly though, I have realized that I love what he throws - always an improvement on the dam - he doesn’t always fix everything, but he hasn’t ever made anything worse - and my 3 favorite keepers ever have all been his! He has a gorgeous rump and always passes production and well attached udders! Sometimes teat placements are a little farther out than I like, a little in at the hocks, but otherwise, no complaints! So thankful to have had him these past 4 years!

We also got out Nigerians for Milk & Cheese (and Yogurt, Kefir, Ice Cream, Pudding, Chocolate Sauce, Fudge)! We haven’t made 50 cheeses, but have made hundreds of batches of the most amazing Chèvre and Greek yogurt! Have tried to branch out to some Mozzarella and Ricotta and cheddar and have not like any quite as much as the Chèvre!

What about you all - anyone have a fail proof recipe they love? I will put my yogurt recipe in the comments! 💗

Maestro is such a beautiful buck already and I am so thrilled to have him this year!

Our retained kids are almost all out of Better Wayz Is a Samurai (son of ELITE SG Better Wayz Isabelle 3*M EEEE92). So, some of these FF pedigrees are out of this world with ELITE and EX92 does on both sides.

I need to part with at least 1-2 of my keepers and it’s so hard when they stand around making me feel totally barn blind! 😉 But these two are staying…

My girls mostly refuse to go to the pasture without being walked there and one of us staying with them! They will follow (video of me walking them there this morning) and they will stay as long as we are there, but as soon as we walk away they go running back almost immediately. Even if we are sneaky when leaving.

I have definitely seen them in the field without us, but I wish I could get them to stay and hang out there longer to eat less hay. 🤷🏻‍♀️ Is it because I am feeding too much hay during the day? I try to keep free choice hay at all times partly to protect milk production numbers. It is not a far walk through the woods to get there… maybe 300 feet.
