Golden Spike Dog Obedience Club (GSDOC)

We offer puppy socialization, Basic through Advanced Obedience, Agility and Rally instruction for our members, the public and their canine partners.

AKC Sanctioned GSDOC provides instruction in raising and training puppies and adult dogs. We provide instruction in basic and advanced Obedience, Agility, Rally and
Canine Good Citizen certification. The club holds an AKC Sanctioned Obedience Trial every March and two
AKC Sanctioned Agility Trials; one in January and one in July.

Registration for Session 4 of 2025 is still open. Classes start on Oct 7th, 2025 and registration closes on Oct 19th, 2025. Come join us for fun learning with your dog in a class of your choice.

We had a great September General Meeting with Mike Parmley. Learning about the rattlesnake snake aversion training and his methods including recognition via sight, hearing, and smell to avoid a rattlesnake is fascinating. He also brought to our attention the importance of knowing which vet emergency hospitals have rattlesnake antivenom on hand. We did call and check with Mountain West Veterinary Specialist in Layton, and they do not carry it. We want to thank Mike with Rattlesnake Alert for coming out and giving a great presentation.

Session 3 has brought a couple of new classes to our roster. This class teaches how to enjoy working in public with our dogs. So many things to learn snd perfect before testing for their AKC CGCA, and CGCU. What class have you enjoyed with your dog this year??

Our first-ever 2025 Summer Pack Walk Challenge. Our Winner was Ann Miller with 4,976 minutes. Here is the interview with our Winner!

What kept you on track with Walking?
I always try to walk at least three miles a day. Since my two Belgian Tervurens compete in agility, I want them to stay in shape. They are much more relaxed dogs if they have had their walk.

What are some of the most fun places you went walking?
This year driving home from an agility trial in Red Lodge, Montana, we stopped at a forest service road to walk. There were six dogs altogether, my two and my friend's four border collies. Ziva was off leash and Masi was on leash. My friend had two dogs on leash and two off leash. A large herd of elk walked by. The three off-leash came back immediately when called. The three on leash were on leash for a reason. It was thrilling for me because I have never seen a large group of elk in the wild. I also walk the Ogden Parkway and start in different places. There's a feeling of community because I often see the same people and have gotten to know many of them. It's always changing from season the season.

What did you enjoy most about this Pack walk Challenge?
It was interesting to see how much I actually walked. My yard would look much better if I walked less and weeded more but I enjoy the time with my dogs.

Our August General Meeting is on Tuesday the 12th from 6:00 PM - 7:00 PM. We will announce the winners of our Summer Pack Walk Challenge. The awards will be handed out as well. We look forward to seeing you all there after the summer break.

Beep rides in the stroller for most of the time, but comes out for a short while. We usually go 2-3 miles every morning!

Session 3 Classes have begun tomorrow will be the second day of classes. This class is our CGCA and CGCU class that is taking place in public, at Layton Hills Mall. Such a fun class to put our dogs' skills to use in public. 🐾
