Happy Independence Day America from GSDOC!

🇺🇸🐶 4th of July Dog Safety Tips 🐾🎆
Because fireworks are fun... but not for your pup!

1. Keep ‘Em Inside 🚪
Fireworks = scary.
Make a cozy, quiet space with toys, treats & music.

2. ID Check ✅
More dogs go missing on July 4th than any other day!
Microchip up-to-date? Collar on? Tag info correct? Double check.

3. Skip the Human Snacks 🍗🚫
Barbecue is tempting, but:
❌ Grapes
❌ Chocolate
❌ Bones
❌ Alcohol
Stick to dog-friendly treats!

4. Beat the Heat ☀️💧
Hot day + stressed dog = danger.
Always have water, shade, and avoid walks in peak heat.

5. Fireworks? Leave Them Home 🏡
Even social pups can panic.
Watch the show, let them chill at home.

🎇 Quick Checklist for the 4th:
✅ Inside during fireworks
✅ ID tags/microchip good
✅ No people food
✅ Cool & hydrated
✅ Stay home from loud events

Enjoy your Independence Day—and keep those tails wagging! 🇺🇸🐾

Tips for Summer Dog Walks

Choose Dog-Friendly Trails

Not all trails or sidewalks are created equal, especially during the heat of summer. When
picking a route, consider the terrain—dirt paths or shaded forest trails are often better than
asphalt or concrete, which can get extremely hot and burn your dogs paws🐶 ...........

Walking your dog and encountering Wildlife in Utah
Utah is a great state to enjoy a wide variety of outdoor activities. Sometimes those activities
can bring us into close encounters with Utah’s varied wildlife. Typical wildlife in the Wasatch
region and Northern Utah could include snakes {including rattlesnakes}, deer, moose, bear,
mountain lions, skunks and porcupines.
Tips for wildlife encounters:
Stay alert and aware
Stay calm and do not run
Pick up small children and pets
Appear as big and loud as possible
Stomp your feet and clap your hands
Shout loudly
Do not turn your back, face the animal and walk backwards slowly

At this evening’s general meeting we learned about what to pack in a pet emergency kit and pet CPR. Hopefully, you never need these skills, but being prepared with a go kit for your best friend is never a bad idea. Also, here’s a helpful pet first aid app to have handy: https://apps.apple.com/us/app/pet-first-aid/id780415389
