Here's a photo of me as a 6th grader teaching a group, so to speak. Me and my sister each had a pony, my grandpa had a pony, and then we had a few more horses belonging to other family members.
Shown in this photo are some cousins, neighbors, and friends. As a 6th grader, I would line everyone up and give them 'turns' on my pony, as my sister would 'let' others, get on her pony.
We brushed them, let them eat grass, practice getting on and off, see who could do stunts, and then, parents would somehow take photos.
The group classes would last all day, every day. Here were the groupings:
Horse care, tack, grooming, riding, ground work, stunts, and then just hanging out with the horses while we ate, or pretended that we were on some horse related adventure.
Not much has changed, (other than a lifetime of experience, training, and reflection of course), except, now I'm the one doing it all without my sister, which is why I allow volunteers to help, the people in the photograph has changed, but the core values I learned during my time as a child is what propels me forward.
My grandfather was from Alberta, Canada and was one of the best natural horseman, I've ever witnessed. Due to his, strict rules of horse care, horsemanship, and love, I was blessed with ethical horsemanship early on.
Did I know when this photo was taken, that I'd be giving lessons for the rest of my life? Definitely not.
Did I think I was giving lessons then? Nope!
We were just a bunch of kids having fun, together, and I did my best to help others understand how to get along well with horses.
That's pretty much my same goal. I guess, while many abandon their roots, to run towards other things. My roots, kinda held onto me, and only each day now, am I more aware of their influence.
I'm very proud of my roots, and I hope to breath life into my roots, more and more, as I live and breathe.
Let the camps, and groups extraordinary continue....

What I say all the time ❤️

What I say all the time ❤️

This is something I find many riders (myself included) struggle with and it’s completely natural!

Most of us are taught from the start to steer with the reins. It becomes instinct to pull right, go right. But horses are incredibly attuned to our body. They feel a subtle shift in our seat, the tension in our legs, even the energy behind our breath.

And yet, when something goes wrong, our first reaction is often to grab at the reins. More pressure. More pulling. More confusion…

But reins should be a whisper, not a command. A final piece of communication, not the first.

When we start riding from our seat, core, and intention, things begin to change. Transitions become smoother. Bends feel natural. The horse begins to listen rather than just react.

💡 Next time you ride, ask yourself:

— Can I prepare this movement with my seat and posture before even using my reins?
— Are my hips following and guiding, or am I trying to steer from the front?

Your horse is listening not just to your hands, but to your whole body 💃🏼

Let’s talk a little bit about this photo. So many folks think there are good and bad people and good and bad horses.
The truth is there are people here and there that truly know how to unlock potential, and when they get a hold of every situation, potential starts being revealed ♥️
This horse, is currently 34. Most folks would’ve ignorantly replaced him years ago, due to his age. He’s an Arabian, which most folks deem as crazy. And Caleb has a lot of chronic health conditions.
He’s had serious arthritis since before 16, serious chiropractic needs, and now no back teeth. 🦷
He’s my most expensive horse to maintain, and worth all the money in the world.
I spent 2 years getting this horse comfortable, and feeling safe around people. Since then, our entire training program is geared around the protocol we have in place to work with Caleb.
He’s been Top Lesson Horse, for over 10 years now, giving 1,000’s of kids smiles. I wouldn’t trade him for any amount of money, fame, fortune, or a herd of million dollar colts.
He was a piece of dark coal when I met him, and now has been shining brighter and brighter each year.
He’s as wild as a 2 year old stallion when he’s hungry, and as gentle as a baby kitten when his needs are met.
Now for the young man on top, he stole my heart the moment he got on Caleb. The magic of being with Caleb was personified in his entire countenance. After week three this young man said to me, with his head down underneath his breath, “Caleb’s a very nice horse.”
Those words from this boy, who had never been around a horse, melted my heart. I thought, ‘by George I think he’s got it!’
It doesn’t take experience to see truth, it takes raw heart.
I got this photo from his mother, and am allowed to use it, to tell this story.
“A Boy and a Horse”
Let the magic continue…..

Our Story

Welcome to our page! Vision: To rescue at risk horses, who will in turn rescue us. My vision is to bring the unwanted in an environment of love and healing. I teach natural horsemanship to all ages and stages of growing. I truly hope to build your faith in humanity and faith in the power of loving horses. Hope: A feeling of expectation and desire of certain things to happen. Rescue: comprises responsive operations that usually involve the saving of life, or prevention of injury during an incident or dangerous situation.

Here's a list of the things Horses of Hope plans on doing this year. *Develop excellent natural horsemen and women who are (children) through our natural horsemanship courses, private lessons and workshops. *Create student lead private lessons and beginner courses. *Clear out more space for riding and pasture. *Do group trail rides with students with trail riding savvy. *Finish all horses so that our horses are available to be ridden by students as they climb the ladder in their horse savvy skills. *Develop Drill Teams that will do exhibitions and performances here for our entertainment pleasure, with the hopes of traveling to other local facilities and performing at their event. *Most importantly impart the desire to belong to the cause of saving, and rehabilitating at-risk horses. *Purchase 4 horse trailer and new truck for taking our drill team on the road, and saving at-risk horses. *Have a game day for all students on a regular basis.

Thank you in advance for helping us come closer to our projected goals. Sincerely, Michelle Everything I do is to save another life. If you don't want to come to a riding lesson, workshop, event or camp, consider donating time or money to this worthy cause.

You financial donation or volunteer time is tax deductible.
