I have zero interest in rehoming him to someone who only wants to resell him for a profit.
After a lot of thought and consideration, I’ve decided to rehome Peckerwood, a double yellow headed Amazon. Before coming to us, he was with his previous owner for 39 years. He is roughly 46-47 years old. We’ve only had him a couple of months.
He does not scream but he does talk a lot.
He doesn’t care for women. Since I’m the main caretaker of him, that’s a problem. He does try to bite me. He’s in the cage he came in, which is spacious but it’s old and rusting, so he will need a new one soon. I just didn’t want to change too much too fast for him. It was just him and his owner, whom was 89 at the time. He’s not a fan of kids either.
He would do best with a male who is willing to work with him. From what we were told, at one time he did come out of his cage. It’s been many years since that’s happened. I’m afraid to let him out since he doesn’t like me and we’ve got other birds in our house.
He was with his owner for 39 years and I was hoping our home would be his last and while I could just let him be, he deserves to be in a home that can work with him and allow him out of his cage. He’s on a pellet diet and eats veggies and fruits really well. When he came to us he ate fresh veggies, peanuts, and club crackers.
I will be picky on who he goes to. I feel so guilty for rehoming him but I’d love for him to be with someone he likes and responds positively to and to where he can be let out of his cage and just thrive.
