Unfortunately, about two weeks ago the beneficiary of our event decided that they did not care to participate as for them it felt to be an odd date, being after Easter and all. I decided to go this route as historically we have had awful weather, and, honestly, the response has been great. I have gone over dozens of ways to go ahead with the event, but, without a registered nonprofit on board it would feel shady to request for donations (I have everything donated for our events). I had considered just doing it for fun this time as a free event, not raise money just this time, but, it comes down the the issue of insurance. It is literally just me, with LC, of course, who put together these events, and I wouldn't have it any other way - it is fun for me - however, that said, I would have to insure the event as myself, and albeit I have never had an issue at an event I organized/nor attended, I fear if it were to happen I would leave myself personally vulnerable.
That said, I will be forming an LLC, which is cheap and easy, and there are legal ways to raise $ for nonprofits as well as have protection for me personally, just in case. This way, the insurance will not be an issue going forward and a little more formality will be conducted in planning so we don't have snags - lessons being learned.
I truly apologize, especially after we had to cancel Halloween, although that was 100% on me, and boy we did need that time - glad to report my 92 year old mother, Little Carl and I are all fine now.
Ocean Grove Halloween Pet Parade began with Cris Arthur of Kearny Bank, and once COVID hit, Cris retired and moved, and I decided to bring it back as well as add the Ocean Grove Easter Pet Parade. We love our little town, and the town loves and supports these events.
Have a Super Summer! Little Carl and I look forward to seeing everyone at Halloween! π»β₯οΈπΎπ
