A gorgeous rare 12 year old spayed female beloved Liger (father was a lion/mother a tiger) was brought to Billiar Animal Hospital in Ocala, Florida for not acting right. After hand injecting her with a sedative in her travel cage in a trailer she became sedated, brought into the clinic, and then intubated to maintain on Isoflurane anesthesia. A thorough examination, bloodwork, intravenous fluids, radiographs and ultrasound were performed with the help of my fantastic team that stayed late to help. Not finding anything serious she was treated with a long acting antibiotic injection. She was taken back out to her cage and then the sedation was reversed. She made her 3 hour trip back home and is doing well.

A Common Marmoset (White-Tuffed Eared Marmoset) was brought to Billiar Animal Hospital to see if she was pregnant and if fetus were viable. Under anesthesia two fetus were visible on ultrasound and the heart could be seen beating in both. Radiographs were taken to see how many there were and to see how far along they are. Two skeletons are easily visible on radiographs. The owners were concerned because her belly was big for such a long time. The owners will be watching her close to see if she can give birth naturally.

A big kitty arrived at my clinic back door! This female lion gave birth to a dead cub during the night and was found by the keeper. She was in labor all day with no more cubs being born so she was brought to Billiar Animal Hospital in Ocala, Florida. Upon arrival the hind paws and part of a tail could be visualized on a cub. I hand injected her with sedation, waited until she was sedated and the team put her on a tarp and brought her into the clinic and placed her on my surgery table. She was intubated and maintained on Isoflurane anesthesia. An attempt was made to remove the dead breech fetus but the head and shoulders were stuck. She was closely monitored by three of my amazing assistants that volunteered their time to help. She was shaved and prepped for a C-section. My assistant and myself had to stand on ladders during the procedure to be high enough to do the surgery. Unfortunately she had another dead cub in her uterus that was removed along with the breech fetus.
