Very often while I’m mucking around the barn one or both will hang out in the same space and I love that 💙

This really hit home for me. I think a lot of horse people out there would benefit from remembering this. When someone is struggling, don’t add to it, just be kind 💙

Words don’t just land once.
They echo.
They loop.
They live in places we never get to see.

Be kind. Always.

Love this! 💙

Love this! 💙

This! There is a better way, in favor of the horse. It takes time, patience, understanding and being open to personal growth. It’s life altering for human and horse. 🤍

It’s cold 🥶… but horse girls die hard…. Because we love our horses. 🙌🐴🥰

When today just isn’t the day.

She’s been on many different bridges and steps probably hundreds of times at this point in her life but today? Too much of an ask.

I purposely wanted to show the messy because these are the days you have a choice to make. Put your plan aside and redirect completely, find a smaller ask with the same object and then leave it, or push through.

Some days, all of those are actually valid choices and it depends what you as the rider also feel capable of handling on the day.

Some days I’ve had a really long, draining or exhausting day at work and redirecting is the better choice for both of us. It’s just not the day for either of us.

Some days maybe I’ll just ask her to find peace next to the scary thing or just put her front feet on vs all four. Find a middle ground and leave it for another day.

Some days I feel I can be the grounding/neutral presence she needs to feel extra brave around the scary thing. I can do other exercises all around it, approach/retreat, or several other things and wait for her to walk across.

Self-awareness is a skill that I’m still learning but, like with everything, consistent practice is how we grow 💙

Something I teach from the start is standing next to anything to give me a boost back on 😂

I can get on from the ground but I honestly don’t love it these days. Old knee injury makes it sometimes tricky (especially in the cold!) and I’ve found even on trail if you walk a bit you find something to stand on 🤷🏼‍♀️

Louis was obviously not impressed but humored me anyway 😂

A little context… this is definitely not what I was asking her to do.

*She’s consistently very aware of this little bridge so in an attempt to make it a bit more neutral we were working all around it.

What I was asking her to do was change directions and continue on like we’d be doing. However, the miscommunication happened I believe because I was now standing on something which usually indicates to her that, at some point, she’ll be asked for the pick up. She just overachieved and offered it on her own 😂

I had a decision to make here and I think this is where it becomes a horse by horse decision. With this particular horse on this particular day, I didn’t immediately correct the miscommunication, pick up my flag and send her back out. On a different day maybe I would have. The short answer is it depends and this is where “feel” comes into play.

Right now, I’m prioritizing her willingness to try and ability to stay in a regulated state of mind (which she was doing really well on a very windy day!) So I didn’t gush over this offer, but she got a scratch, a thank you, but no thank you right now, and I causally sent her back out to continue on.

No fuss, no correction, just feeling what she needs today 💙
