Slow work is important, but even more important is correct slow work 💪👍
Your slow work matters more than most people realize.
I spend a lot of time focusing on exactly where I’m putting my horse’s feet. The slow work is where balance, body control, and confidence are built. If you skip that part, the fast work usually exposes it.
Every horse is different. Some are very literal they’ll go exactly where you point them. Others are always trying to anticipate the next move. I don’t necessarily call them “cheaty.” Most of the time, they’re just trying to get ahead of me because they think they know what’s coming.
That’s when I take them off the barrels and go back to the basics. I want them waiting on my cues instead of making decisions for me.
The goal isn’t just to make a horse that knows the pattern. The goal is to make a horse that stays with you every step of the way.
Slow is where the foundation is built. Speed is just the reward for doing it right.
