🌟 Pupdate / 5:13pm: He is being transferred to OHAR-Open Hands Animal Rescue today!

💔 Rebel, a 12-year-old dog, was surrendered to us today due to his owner’s personal struggles. He first came to us as a puppy, and now we’d love to help him find a soft place to land.

Rebel is a quiet, affectionate gentleman who is crate trained, house-aware (he’ll stand by the door when he needs out), and knows his commands: sit, down, come, stay, and heel. He is afraid of other animals, so if he moves into a home with cats, they’ll need to be gentle on the old guy. No scrappers. 💪

We discovered today that he really enjoys Moo Moo Pies dog treats. 💗

1️⃣ Library Card Sign-Up Month – Show us your library card and we’ll waive your pet’s adoption fee. Don’t have one? You can sign up at any Marion County Library branch and learn more at library.marionfl.org.

2️⃣ National Preparedness Month – Tell us your family’s emergency preparedness plan and your adoption fee is on us. (Don’t forget to include your pets.) We’ll also be sharing tips online all month long.

👉 Sign up for alerts at AlertMarion.com (MCSO).
👉 Follow Marion County Animal Services and Marion County, Florida for updates on sandbags, evacuation shelters, and local weather.
👉 Remember: when required, we open pet-friendly evacuation shelters at several local high schools. Cats and dogs stay in a separate building than the humans. Owners are required to stay on-site to use this service.

Adopt, plan ahead, and keep your whole family—two- and four-legged—safe (and reading) this September. ❤️

It is the LAST DAY of Clear the Shelters month! Help get more pets out of the shelter and into homes, where they belong.

We are offering FREE ADOPTIONS. Our pets are sterilized, vaccinated, microchipped and licensed. We very much want to give you a great experience and someone to love.

We may have skipped Foster Friday yesterday… and you all caught us. 😅 But don’t worry—today we’re making it up with one of the best foster dogs around: Nugget!

Nugget is a tripod, but don’t let that fool you—he keeps up just fine. He’s calm, gentle, and affectionate, yet still loves toys, other dogs (big or small), cats, and kids. He’s housebroken, crate trained, car-ride approved, and even nailed our Pack Walk where everyone fell in love with him.

Basically, he’s the kind of dog that makes you wonder why you didn’t adopt him yesterday.

We’re open today until 5 PM and tomorrow (Sunday, Aug 31) from 12–4 PM for our final adoption push of Clear the Shelters Month. Come meet Nugget and all the other incredible pets waiting for homes.

Marion County, the love is FELT! As of this morning, we're at 448 adoptions, just 52 adoptions short of our goal for Clear the Shelters month!

Tomorrow we'll be operating extended hours, closing at 7pm. We just KNOW we can do this, and the incredible animals can't wait to meet you and become a part of your world, so come on out to our shelter as adoptions are still FREE!
