UF Veterinary Hospitals Operations:

*UF Pet Emergency Treatment Services (UF PETS) in Ocala will be closed Wednesday night , Oct. 9 (5 p.m.) and will open Thursday, Oct. 10 at 5 p.m.
*The UF Veterinary Hospital at World Equestrian Center in Ocala will operate normally until 5 p.m. UF PETS staff and doctors will take over emergency operations at WEC from 5 p.m. - 8.am. Thursday morning for small animal urgent care. WEC equine staff will be onsite overnight Oct. 9 to provide care for any horses in need stabled onsite at WEC.

UFVH Gainesville:

*Will remain open 24-7 for emergency admissions throughout.
*Wednesday, Oct. 9: The hospital will remain open for normal business.
* Thursday, Oct. 10: Drop-off and outpatient appointments will be delayed until 10 a.m. but otherwise the hospital will remain open for normal business.

UF Veterinary Hospitals Operations:

*The UF Veterinary Hospitals Gainesville and the UF Veterinary Hospital at World Equestrian Center will be open for normal business on Friday, 9/27/24.

*The UF Pet Emergency Treatment Services will be open Friday at 5 p.m.

Update: 9/25/24 at 1 p.m.

*UF Veterinary Hospitals Gainesville will be open for normal business hours until 11 a.m. Thursday, 9/26/24 and will move to emergency operations only starting at 3 p.m. through Friday morning.

*UF Pet Emergency Treatment Services will close Thursday, 9/26 and will reopen Friday, 9/27 at 5 p.m. pending facility status.

*UF Veterinary Hospital at World Equestrian Center will be open for normal business hours until 11 a.m. Thursday, 9/26/24 and will move to urgent and emergency small animal patients starting at 3 p.m. on Thursday through 7 a.m. Friday. The equine hospital will also provide urgent treatment for horses and other large animals sheltered at WEC during that time.

DVM and Graduate Students:

Here is our latest Hurricane Idalia update:
*All operations at the UF College of Veterinary Medicine and the UF Veterinary Hospitals (including UF PETS) have returned to normal as of 5 p.m. Aug. 30.
*Campus will reopen Thursday, Aug. 31. All first, second and fourth-year DVM students will resume their didactic courses and labs.
*Clinical students will resume duty at the start of the clinical day on Aug. 31.
*All other students and college employees are expected to return to work on Aug. 31.

Certain heart conditions, or defects, may be present at birth in some dogs and cats. Known as congenital heart diseases, these ailments have the potential to lead to serious consequences over time, if not diagnosed and treated properly. Today on Animal Airwaves-Live Dr. Michael Aherne, a clinical assistant professor and cardiology specialist, will discuss common types of congenital heart seen in puppies and kittens and how veterinarians diagnose and treat these diseases in their patients.
