Great advice from our buddy Ben Eike at Bent E Quarter Horses!
Your horse isn’t a robot. Stop trying to hold them in the “perfect spot” and correct every millimeter that drifts off where you think it should be. Do the opposite.
Start riding a circle and let your horse come off it. And when I say “come off,” I don’t mean two inches — I mean 15 feet. Then your job is simple: bring them back to the line and completely let them go.
Your horse discovers the release of riding on the circle you’re drawing with your eyes. They learn where to balance themselves, how to carry their body, and when it’s okay to just keep loping. If they drift off again, bring them back, then let them find it themselves again.
This is how horses learn to carry themselves and think for themselves. You’re not correcting every tiny imperfection — you’re teaching balance, confidence, and independence. And honestly? Your stress level drops too. Win-win.
