How well do you REALLY know your dog’s body?
One of the foundational principles behind The Athletic Dog is something we call “Body Mapping” — helping owners better understand what is NORMAL for their dog before problems ever arise.
Because early injury recognition rarely starts with obvious lameness.
It often starts with subtle changes:
• mild stiffness
• altered flexibility
• muscle tension
• changes in posture
• discomfort during stretching
• hesitation during movement
• compensation patterns
• or simply something that no longer feels “normal”
In this session, we worked through shoulder stabilization, forelimb assessment, hip mobility, iliopsoas stretching, palpation techniques, and movement evaluation with an incredible canine athlete, Classy, and her owner Stacie.
The goal is not to turn owners into veterinarians.
The goal is to create more educated, aware, proactive owners who understand their dogs at a deeper level — because the better we understand NORMAL, the earlier we can recognize subtle changes that may impact performance, longevity, and overall wellness.
This philosophy is a major part of what The Athletic Dog is all about:
🐾 Prevention
🐾 Awareness
🐾 Performance
🐾 Longevity
Huge thank you to Stacie and Classy for allowing us to share a small piece of this process.
