Our big annual ceramics sale is underway!! Here are some photos from opening night. Thank you everyone who came out and joined in the fun. I saw lots of full shopping bags going home with happy attendees.

Come by Saturday and Sunday. It’s all inside the festive studio. DJ, yummy food, coffee and bakery pop ups, too!

7.0 is a huge earthquake, thank goodness it was six miles down and there wasn’t a tsunami! Know your evacuation plans people, and rehearse them.

I’ve been making a lot of handbuilt planters recently. Mostly using hump molds, but some coiled as well. I decided to see what Malcom Davis Shino would look like with relatively thin application, dried but fired within 1-2 days. It’s on our studio’s recycled clay body. I was hoping for something shiny to think of as a “holiday planter” and to catch low sun angles outside. I’m happy with the outcome even though it will be difficult to reproduce. Only one crawl and it’s on the inside below dirt level so no issues there. Thanks to for offering lots of@amazing glazes and a great studio staff who’s working like crazy this time of year.

Some of my pieces from the .0 workshop at .

We used Death Valley clay which was new to me. So easy to work with! All pieces are pinch pots developed from a single ball of clay. Most pieces are glazed in Tenmoku, with one unglazed piece in the back, and one light soda fired piece on the far left. I’ve held two pieces back to do in a full soda firing.

Anyone else feeling the change of seasons?!🤨😖

This past week as the nighttime temperatures drop, the ants have been hunting for warmer spots. Easiest spot to try in an older home is always the kitchen, isn’t it? I woke up too late to have first dibs at clean up but this photo is only part of the swarm.

Pest control is due here next week and that will be a happy day!

I’m in the middle of a three day workshop at It’s a packed class with the amazing Paul Briggs .0! The class filled up immediately when listed three months ago, and if you look through these photos you’ll see why.

To start his pots are all pinch pots. There is no clay added to these vessels. He is not throwing a vase and adding decoration 🤯 His technique to do this is what we are learning. He does other work that is historically and personally reflective and deeply relevant, so check out his catalog.

1. Paul starting out with a lump of clay. 2. Two finished pieces that he brought with him (Clay nerds- both Death Valley pieces!!)
3. .ceramics and .0 having a reunion moment in the studio.
4. Sandy vessel
5. Sandy vessel
6. One of Paul’s pieces that I have my eye on.
