Well crud . I was having a great ride on Olaf today. Riding around the field all by ourselves and not seeming to mind the saddle and crupper at all today. He had been bothered by it a bit at first every day but no reaction today so i thought we'd venture on out to the far side of the field. And it was going amazing. Did some steep down hills and no reaction and the dog bebopping in and out no reaction. then we was almost back to the house on the flat part of the field and I let my guard doen for a second and something spooked him from the back side, not the dog he was in the front, but he bolted forward and started bucking I rode a couple then hit the ground. 😞 my dumb pain intolerance kept making me black out every time if try and stand up so Savannah went and got him and tied him up for me to work him again later but an hour later im still laid up on the couch and drew had to unsaddle n put him away for me. ... I can move its just painful so pray its just a deep bruise. 🙏

Lin brought Kit for me to compete this weekend in the Iron Mountain NATRC ride. Thursday evening Sierra and I went out for a few miles then Friday I went out with a lady for a lesson and he did really well being patient for her horse to work through some things. Then Sierra rode him that evening for me to take Olaf out. Saturday I went to get him out of his stall amd he wss sleeping. I got a picture with hi. Then grabbed my halter and he laid his head down. I said I know bud but we gotta go vet in. He laid all the way flat and grunted. I laughed at him and then he hopped up 😆we got 2nd in Experienced leisure division he was good on trail but not great for obstacles. They were all completed but not pretty. Today we placed 1st and got highpoint!

I sometimes get a little, anxious I guess you'd say, I dont really know what word to use but I guess thats the best, when it takes me a while to start a horse. It took me almost 2 weeks before I even sat on Olaf. I just did lots of ground work gaining his trust and respect. I lways worry the owners are going to be feeling what are they doing.. but then I have reminders like this where im reminded that building that foundation is so important! Without it he would not be carrying a total stranger to him kid acting like a kid on his 5th ride! ... we had rode out to work on an obstacle and ended up trading horses around and Wren rode him back and he was so good.

Friday, Marsha and Sierra rode with me and we did about a mile and a half. He only spooked twice and they were both little and worked through it and went and touched before we moved on. I was very happy with his first trail ride!

Olaf came to Iron Mountain Horse Camp with us this weekend. We arrived Thursday afternoon and got him all settled in and then played around camp for a while, and then rode to the trail head and back. He did really well.

Took Olaf back to Roane State today. While Savannah had a lesson I worked on "come get me" and then had him come over and I started working on putting my leg over, then weight, and then sat on him for a while. I always do this with the lead wrapped around the rail and me holding the end, so they aint tied if they do panic but it keeps me near the rail and typically keeps the panic mode down. After a bit of that then I decided to tie my lead into reins and see how he'd do. He did pretty good. I backed and worked on flexing him for a bit then let him just see if he would wonder and he did so we meandered around the pillars and things outside the arena. After a rest I saddled him up and lunged him , no bucks today! Then took him back out and had him come to the rail and did the same as earlier with the saddle on. After all the lessons were over I took him in and led Savannah around on him. Then gave her some reins ans I put him on a lunge line, even trotted him a couple times , and then turned her loose to walk around the arena. He did really well! I got on amd rode for a few min to but realized my saddle isn't fitting him unfortunately, so I got off then had to go hold Rooster for his adjustment then I got back on with just a pad again. I was so proud of him today!
