Stella wants to go home!

This beautiful gentle senior really wants her old life back- a nice quiet life in Florida with her elderly owners- but she will have to settle for a new home in NJ. She is 14 1/2 years old and under 20lbs, looks like a mini chow or giant Pom, and is a nervous timid but sweet girl. She makes herself comfortable easily, usually avoiding dog beds and stretching out in the middle of the floor like a bear skin rug or in a corner against the door so you trip over her in the dark (and she’s deaf so you will have to check her breathing to make sure she’s alive and doesn’t wake up and move out of the way 🤣).

She’s not into other dogs at all and has always lived as an only pet so would like to continue that way. She likes her walks and still has some pep in her step for such an old lady and we think she could have a few good years left in her yet.

Shy guy Bruno has warmed up a lot but is still looking for his perfect match. He’s very lovable and bonds quickly with his people and would like a calmer adult home WITH a compatible doggie sister/girlfriend/wife/roommate. However she wants to define the relationship is fine with him, he feels much more comfortable and opens up in the presence of other little dogs and even gets playful with them. He’s 3 years old, neutered, updated on shots and is ready for a home. Housebreaking is still 50-50- he goes when taken out but may mark and need a belly band if not confined and supervised. So if flawless housebreaking is a deal breaker he’s probably not the dog for you (actually most Yorkies and toys breeds probably aren’t a match- they are known for their tiny bladders and true love means sometimes cleaning up each other’s p*e 🤷‍♀️).

Sweet smiling Rhoda still hasn’t found a place to land. This young happy girl is still recovering from a broken pelvis (suspected hit by a car) and needs surgery at our vet for a luxated hip soon, but we were really hoping to have her settled in a local permanent home or committed longterm foster first. She’s a happy bouncy Velcro dog who loves all people, is well housebroken and crate-trained in her temporary foster, and doesn’t realize anything is wrong with her and wants to run and play. Her biggest challenge: keeping her from doing too much too soon, she insists she’s fine and can race up and down stairs and jump around but the vets say “Noooooo 😩 “. She definitely doesn’t like other dogs in her space and wants to be your one and only. Though she has the poodley curls, she has some terrier or something in her too and does shed.

Email [email protected] if you can open your home to Rhoda and bring her back for vet visits in Oakland, NJ or Warwick, NY

We really aren’t sure why Bella is still with us 🤷‍♀️. She’s super sweet, not too old, not too young, dog friendly, and a cuddler. She sheds but so do most dogs. She had a bad ear infection and some allergies that went untreated for far too long and are under control now, so will just need someone to stay on top of things and take her to the vet before it gets so bad she’s scratching the skin on her face off again. She’s 5 1/2 year old and a sweet Jack Russell/maltese mix who gazes at you like you are the center of her world. Email [email protected] to meet Bella in Northern NJ

Timothy has come out of his shell a lot and is a fun active playful young man who likes to wrestle and chase his doggie friends and loves attention. He’s nervous at first and has to come to you on his terms but once he bonds good luck getting him to leave you alone! He came to us horribly matted and wasn’t so cooperative for grooming and vetting since he probably never had it done before, but sleepy drugs and muzzles work wonders for that. He’s 20lbs full grown, probably under 3 years old, and some kind of Shih tzu/lhasa/poodle type our best guess.

We made a shocking discovery during Logan’s recent grooming 😈 😱

When he first came to us he didn’t really seem that bad, he let us shave his severely matted hair without an issue after the owners said he was too aggressive to groom, and he seemed pretty friendly and social. He had us fooled. Now that he’s settled in he’s shown his demon side in full force and we now understand why he was passed around so many times before coming to us.

This 7 year old Maltese is under 10lbs and looks like a perfect furry angel when he dances on his hind legs begging for attention and smiling. That’s how he traps you. Then once you are deeply enamored 😖 👹 the real Logan emerges. Don’t talk to him when he’s eating. Don’t take his toys. Only pick him up when he comes over asking for it. Don’t interrupt his evil plans whatever they may be that day. Just bribe him with food to make him think what you want him to was his idea all along, and everything will go smoothly. He is mostly ok with other dogs as long as they follow the same rules, he’s done some jump scares and chased off some of our much more evil dogs and can definitely hold his own in a tough crowd.

Logan is tired of getting passed around and we want his next home to be permanent. We could sugar coat his issues, but we don’t want to have to be called to exorcise him from yet another home. He’s not a snuggly lapdog, no dress up, keep your face out of his face and just let him do his thing and you will probably be allowed to live.

Email [email protected] if you like little dogs with a big attitude and are brave enough to bring Logan home.

*Disclaimer- the devil horns are AI, the rest of the dog isn’t 😝 His aren’t visible from the outside and all in his mind 😈

Meet our newest oldest saddest senior, Treasure 💜

Born on Valentine’s Day way back in 2010 (don’t worry, we won’t make you do math 🧮 she’s 15 1/2 years old), this purebred dapple beauty was surrendered to a full county shelter when her owner “couldn’t care for her any longer”. She had been having accidents, getting confused, losing weight, and has a lot of common old lady issues. But her bloodwork was perfect, she LOVES to eat, sleeps very comfortably and enjoys attention and caring shelter volunteers saw she still had some life left in her and reached out to us. And if you know us you know how that conversation went… “can you take a 15 year old dox—“ “YES! HOW SOON CAN SHE GET HERE!? Tomorrow!? Great!” And here she is, looking for a fellow senior doxie addict to pamper and love her for whatever quality time she has.

She doesn’t seem to see or hear too well and sleeps like she’s dead so you have to check her breathing to make sure she’s still alive or tap her to wake her up. She walks slowly but eats quickly, and from her vet records it seems she was being accidentally starved eating only 2 or 3 small trays of Cesar’s food a day when she would have needed at least 6 for her size so we are hoping she will gain some weight back being fed more. (Accidentally starving dogs by not feeding enough when they are eating canned food only is a real thing so we will give her owner the benefit of the doubt there- most people don’t realized canned food is mostly water and less dense so you need to feed much more than you would think! The more you know 💫) She is fine with other sleepy dogs and already took a nap next to our other new old man Oreo, and we doubt she would notice a cat. She must have been a gorgeous small standard dapple in her day- only 11lbs now but should be more like 16lbs- and we are hopeful with proper feeding and care to restore some of her former glory.

Email [email protected] to bring our antique Treasure home! She’s currently in Northern NJ, we don’t transport but adopt within a couple hours drive if you are willing to come to us.

Huge thanks to Kohler Distributing, Sunset Pub and Grill, and WDHA for hosting a successful Yappy Hour fundraiser and choosing our rescue as the beneficiary! The donation is greatly appreciated especially with our vet bills at an all time high this summer with so many needy senior dogs being surrendered and abandoned.

The funds will be used to sponsor our newest senior Oreo!

At 13, this cute yorkiepoo is a little nervous and quirky but overall a sweet mellow boy who likes other calm sleepy dogs. He’s confused and probably doesn’t have the greatest hearing or vision but gets into a routine quickly. He’s lived with cats in the past and keeps to himself mostly around other animals, not wanting to make waves. He can be a bit barky and anxious when alone at times and would prefer someone around more often than not. He’s overall in good health, had some issues with flea allergies resolved by getting rid of the fleas ✅ and some arthritis that he’s on medication for but toddles around pretty well.

Our hospice boy Nino is still looking for an adopter!
With his big doe eyes he always looks sad but he’s a really happy friendly chihuahua who gets along with people and dogs and is always wagging his tail. He has a pretty bad heart but not yet failing and is on 3 medications longterm but stable and not showing any symptoms now. We would love to get him into a home sooner than later so he can enjoy whatever time he has being loved and spoiled. He’s under 10lbs, about 10 years old and a complete sweetheart without any of the “attitude” chi are infamous for.

Choco is embracing his inner schnauzer with his new hairdo and glorious beard!

This 4 year old Shih Tzu/schnauzer mix is tiny but mighty, 10lbs but definitely thinks he much larger and has no problem telling off dogs 6 times his size. His initial instinct with new people or dogs is to act tough and fresh, but once he acclimates to them he’s very sweet and lovable. He is neutered, updated on shots and ready to go home to someone who likes funny spunky little terrier types. Email [email protected] to meet Choco in Northern NJ
