💙 DESPERATELY SEEKING: A MOM OR DAD FOR RICK 💙

Meet Rick — a 1-year-old pit bull sweetheart who is nothing but love wrapped in a big teddy bear body. He’s currently in a short-term foster home, and time is running out. Rick needs a forever home ASAP before he has to return to the shelter.

Rick is:
✨ Crate trained
✨ Eager to learn & easy to train (he’s discovering so many new things in his first real home!)
✨ Incredibly loyal and devoted to his human
✨ A gentle, respectful puppy who truly wants to make you proud

Rick has that joyful puppy excitement for life, but what makes him special is how hard he tries to manage it. He’ll pause, look to you for guidance, and you can almost hear him asking, “Am I doing this right?” 🥹

At heart, Rick is a tender, sensitive soul. His favorite thing in the world is curling up to sleep with his Lamb Chop and his stuffed animal with a beating heart — his little pseudo-parent while he waits for a real one of his own. 💔🐑

Why I started Speakeasy Dog Grooming

After a decade of working in typical grooming salons, I wanted to be able to offer something better for the beloved dogs who enter my care. The average grooming salon is a loud, chaotic, stressful place.. not only for the dogs, but for the groomers as well.

Many standard salons are structured to place profits over the comfort of the pets. They overbook groomers beyond what they can calmly, comfortably do in a day and create an overcrowded environment full of anxious barking dogs. This leads to stressed out groomers given no choice but to rush through your dog so they can get on to the many more waiting in cages for their turn. Though salons like this may brand themselves as a spa-like environment, the reality often couldn't be further from that.

With Speakeasy I wanted to be able to flip that on its head. Working one-on-one allows me to give every dog the gentle, loving attention they deserve. I accept only a minimal amount of clients each day so that I can thoroughly take my time with each dog, and the pups are able to actually relax in the quiet environment. It's all around a drastically more positive (and safer!) experience.. and I'm thrilled that my clients have seen in their dogs what a big difference this makes.

Aside from the huge upgrade in environment, there are a lot of things that set my process above the rest.

✨EVERY tool and surface is sanitized with veterinary grade disinfectant between EVERY dog. If you're horrified that this isn't standard practice in every salon, know that I am too.

✨Your dog is only ever handled by a highly experienced groomer: no underpaid, undertrained bathers whose priority is getting your dog done fast instead of bathed and dried gently and correctly.

✨I only use high quality products and every dog receives shampoo AND conditioner customized to their specific needs. I don't upcharge for de-shedding treatments, use of conditioner, skin soothing shampoos, or fragrance-free options. It's my mission to always use what's optimal for the health of your dog's skin and coat, rather than nickel and diming you with "upgrade packages" or cutting corners by using cheap products. There are salons around that will wash your dog in dish soap and yes, that's as bad as it sounds.

✨Whereas many salons leave dogs sitting in cages in a "kennel room" where they are seldom checked on while waiting their turn, your dog/s will always be under my direct supervision. Even if you have multiple dogs, the dog/s who are not currently being worked on are in my view 100% of the time.

To me, dog grooming isn't just a job. I am passionate about doing it the right way, and I hope that you and your dog will see what a difference that can make!

FAQ

​✨Q. How long will it take?
A. It depends! I will be able to give a time estimate upon determining your dog's breed, size, current coat condition, and requested groom style.

✨Q. Are you willing to work with my scared/anxious dog?
A. Yes! Through my career I have been able to successfully groom countless dogs who've had a hard time with (or were even turned away by) other groomers. This even includes dogs who are prone to biting, just please be honest if your dog has a bite history so I can be adequately prepared for safe handling.

✨Q. Are you willing to groom my senior dog?
A. Yes! I adore old dogs and am very experienced in working with them.

✨Q. Do you take all sized dogs?
A. Sadly I currently cannot accommodate extra large / giant breeds or large dogs who are unusually heavy due to being very overweight. I can lift up to about 85 to 90 lbs, so that is my limit at the moment. If you are unsure, feel free to ask!

✨Q. Can I walk my dog in front of your property?
A. Yes! Feel free to allow your dog to go potty on the grass in front of my house, just please do not do so on my neighbors' lawns.

✨Q. Where do I park?
A. On the street in front of my property. Please do not park in my neighbor's driveway.

Booking & Appointment Process

✨All services are by appointment only

✨The best way to reach me is via text message at 708-860-0477. To give the dogs in my care the full attention they deserve, I only respond to messages or calls when I am not actively working on a dog! It may take me a few hours to get back to you.

✨Drop-offs and pick-ups are done curbside. Though it is my goal for the future, I do not currently have an indoor lobby area.

✨As I am strictly one-on-one, it is important to drop your dog off at the scheduled time. I likely will not be able to accommodate early or very late drop-offs or pick-ups. Please plan on being able to pick your dog up in a timely manner once you are notified that they are ready.
