How it All Began...

Oak Point English Setters is a family-centered gun-dog kennel. We are not radical animal rights activists, rather we offer a warm loving and kind approach to doing business. You will not

hear a negative word from us regarding other kennels in the English Setter business. We believe in taking a Christian approach in conducting our business practices and always following the golden rule, “Treat others as you would like to be treated!”.

Here at Oak Point we will be striving to produce what we call true Appalachian “Traditional” or “Classic” style English Setters. Our style of gun-dog would be that of days long past. Our dogs could be called a “Gentleman’s Dog” like many old Norman Rockwell paintings. We strive to produce the beauty that George Bird Evans so loved. As George Ryman once said, “I want a dog that is excellent in the field and a pleasure to the eye the rest of the year.” Our dogs are gentle, loving, affectionate, and always striving to please their owner. The foundation of our kennel is pictured above, Oak Point Trudy. We acquired Trudy from a fine Christian gentleman, Mr. Derek Smith, breeder and owner of Pine Mountain Setters of Daniels, West Virginia. Mr. Smith’s foundation blood was that from old time grouse hunters of Virginia, Mr. Woodrow Mullins and Mr. Tom Rasnic. We spent two years searching for the “Right” dog to get us up and running. I personally read many books and spent hundreds of hours talking to breeders from all over the country who were advertising the type of Setter I was looking for. After I talked with Mr. Smith, I knew right then he was the perfect match for us.

Here at Oak Point, we strive to produce a foot-hunting gun-dog. If you are looking for a trial-type Setter, we will not be for you. Our dogs are hunting dogs who are methodical and persistent. Sometimes I like to refer to them as “meat dogs” because you can rest-assured
