Collaborative Horsemanship

Collaborative Horsemanship Horses communicate with us, we just have to listen. When we do, the possibilities are endless. She offers both instruction and training.

Gemma has worked with horses her entire life primarily using the natural horsemanship method. Through body language, feel, intention, timing and most importantly, patience, your horse will learn self regulation, calmness, thoughtfulness and confidence in itself. The end result is a harmonious and safe partnership with your horse.

About 6 months ago a woman approached me asking for my help with her young Mammoth Donkey. She told me her goals were to start him under-saddle, to be her trail partner and to teach him how to be a good citizen to eventually have him pulling a cart. She said he was lazy and didn’t care one bit about pressure but under all that she saw how badly he wanted connection. And a job. I had no previous experience with donkey’s but I was curious and up to the challenge.
This mammoth donkey started out stubborn, planting his feet, pulling away, dragging you around the round pen and questioning every step forward. But with a crazy amount of patience, consistency, and a whole lot of try, he’s come a long way…now carrying a rider, trailering out to different arenas, trail rides and pulling a cart!
He’s still got opinions (donkeys always do 😄), but he’s learning to trust, to move forward, and to meet us halfway. That’s the kind of progress that matters most.
It’s not about perfection—it’s about the partnership we’re building one step at a time. I am so proud of him.

Last day before heading home venira and I enjoyed a tour of a beautiful winery. Nothing like playing cards outside on a sunny day drinking fine wine at the place it was made. Until next time Chile!! Thank you for all the amazing memories!
