Seeing a friend I haven’t visited in several years. And it just must be my aura it’s his furry family members that want to see me first. (And see me second and third!)

I sometimes wonder if some owners never take photos of their fury family member!

Veterinarians working to catch up on backlogged care
COVID-19 safety protocols have extended the time needed for veterinary appointments, leaving some veterinarians' schedules fully booked and giving them no choice but to decline new clients. "Everyone was running out and getting pets ... and we're now facing backlogs of annual exams, because we weren't doing them for months," said veterinarian Liz Ruelle, calling the decision to turn away clients "gut-wrenching." Having trouble making an appointment?
A veterinarian helps explain the issue.

Why can’t I get in to see my vet? We have plenty of veterinarians in our local area, but pets are having trouble getting seen lately. It all started back in March when COVID-19 was first becoming a household word. Pets don’t need to worry about catching COVID-19 and should never wear a mask beca...

Yesterday I said goodbye to a patient and a friend.

Fourteen years ago, we started this mobile practice. A year after starting, Dillon was a young, 3-month-old that needed an examination. From then on, anytime I came by to visit, Dillon would run out and be right there, mouth smiling and tail wagging!

When having a difficult day, I would actually be happy that Dillon needed to be seen. Because I could use that happiness.

There are a lot of people that ask if the animals are happy to see the vet, somewhat perplexed that an animal would like going to the “doctors”. If veterinarians had patients like Dillon, everyone would want to do this job.

So yesterday, when his quality of life was terrible and he could not really get up, he still gave me that happy face, and happily took a few cookies from me!

I helped a patient, a friend, say goodbye. I am glad that I could help him, but I miss my friend already!

Caring For Animals is so sad to say goodbye to half of our team today. Mary, our completely amazing vet nurse, is leaving us after 12 years. While we wish her every happiness in her new adventures, we can’t imagine Caring For Animals without her! She is part of our family and part of yours as well. Our hearts are breaking, but we wish her all the best! We love you, Mary!!

In continuing with recommendations from state and local agencies we are only seeing Must See appointments at the moment.

We are offering Facetime appointments, as needed, at a fee of $25 - $75 depending on length and depth of the call/video chat.

With help of the other veterinarians on the island we are working to ensure that your pet can be seen if it cannot wait. However, if the issue can wait please make a note and call later to address the problem.

Again, thank you for your patience.

03/24/2020

We hope everyone is staying safe and healthy.
We are following the AVMA's recommendation and are not seeing routine appointments at this time.
Caring For Animals will continue to share emergency call with the other veterinarians on the island to help your animals stay safe should they have an issue that can not wait.

Thank you for your patience during this time.

Didn’t even worry about “social distance”! Nice to hang with Isla today.
