🚨 Pet Parents, Don't Assume—Verify! 🚨

Did you know that just because your pet has a microchip, it doesn’t mean it’s registered to YOU? Many shelters and rescues implant microchips but don’t always transfer ownership to the adopter. This means if your pet gets lost, you are not receiving the phone call to say your fur baby has been found. Instead, the Good Samaritan who found your pet may be told "the microchip is not registered". Your pet may find itself being rehomed to a stranger.

✅ What You Should Do:
🔹 Check your pet’s microchip registration TODAY!
🔹 Visit www.petmicrochiplookup.org to find out where it's registered.
🔹 Update your contact information with the microchip company to ensure a swift reunion if your pet goes missing.

Don’t wait until it’s too late—take five minutes now to protect your pet’s future!

💬 A Kind Reminder to Our Community 💛

We love seeing everyone come together to help lost and found pets. Your compassion is what makes this community so special. 🐾

As a friendly reminder, let’s keep our comments kind, supportive, and judgment-free.
When someone is searching for a lost pet, sharing a found pet, or posting about a tough situation, they’re already going through a lot. What helps most is encouragement, empathy, and teamwork, not criticism or blame.

✨ Please remember:

Be respectful in your words and tone.

Offer helpful information or support when you can.

Avoid judgmental or negative remarks. They will be removed. Continuous discouraging remarks will unfortunately lead to being banned from this group. We have served our community for fourteen solid years. We have remained steadfast in our commitment to foster a supportive environment. If public debate is what you enjoy, there are many other Facebook groups for your to participate in. This won't be one of them.

Together, we can make this a safe, positive place focused on what matters most: getting pets home and supporting the people who love them. 💕

Thank you for being part of such a caring community!

Looks like we have storms heading through parts of Missouri this weekend. Please take a moment to prep your household and pets. And more importantly, share the info to help someone you know. Our shelters are overburdened. We as pet owners must take preventative action and take caution with our pets during storms.

STORM SAFETY TIPS FOR PET OWNERS
With storm season approaching, it’s crucial to keep your pets safe and calm. Here's how to be prepared before, during, and after a storm:

BEFORE THE STORM:

ID & Microchip Check: Make sure your pet is microchipped and wears a collar with up-to-date ID tags.

Create a Pet Emergency Kit: Include food, water, meds, leash, waste bags, and comfort items like a toy or blanket.

Safe Space: Identify a safe, secure area in your home where your pet can stay during the storm.

Practice Calmness: Desensitize your pet to loud noises with soft background storm sounds in short, positive sessions.

DURING THE STORM:

Keep Pets Indoors: Never leave them outside or tied up.

Stay Calm: Your energy affects your pet—speak softly and offer comfort.

Limit Outdoor Time: Take quick bathroom breaks on a leash only if safe.

Distraction Works: Offer puzzle toys or treats to help keep them occupied and distracted.

Use caution: As our pets age, their reaction to storms can shift. If your pet is normally off leash, use a leash before, during and after the storm. Storms cause changes in the air and smells. It can cause our aging pets to become skittish.

AFTER THE STORM:

Inspect Yard Before Letting Pets Out: Look for broken fences, debris, or other hazards.

Watch for Stress Signs: Shaking, hiding, or lack of appetite could signal lingering anxiety.

Update Emergency Contacts: If your pet got lost, notify local shelters and post on lost/found pet pages right away.

Stay safe, and don’t forget—your calm = their calm.

I would like to share this post to help our community understand the importance of having all found pets scanned for a microchip.

This pup was found in Hammond, Indiana. The pup had a collar with ID tags. The pup was also scanned and found to have a microchip.

Animal Control called the number. The person said they did not want the dog back. In the meanwhile, Animal Control was on the phone with the microchip company. The information on the microchip belonged to a person living in Chichao. His dog had gone missing TEN YEARS AGO! He was ecstatic to hear that his dog had been found.

Every single pet deserves the opportunity to be reunited with its owner. I realize some pets are found in a questionable physical state of affairs. In those cases, please take the dog to your local animal control for where the dog was found. Let them handle the situation.

We have many police departments throughout Missouri that now have microchip scanners from our organization, Missouri Lost & Found Paws. We would love to get even more police departments equipped with a microchip scanner. They often help when Animal Control is closed for the day. And a shameless plug, if you are willing to donate to our organization so we can continue helping others, please donate via PayPal to [email protected] or Venmo to .

In the meanwhile, please get your dogs AND cats microchipped. Be sure to complete the registration. So many pet owners have assumed that this step is completed by the shelter or animal rescue organization. It is often up to the pet owner to do so. Get 'er done!
