PSA: This is solely an educational post and not meant towards anyone but when people ask about pricing, time frames, etc. certain things are completely out of control.
A perfect example is an 18.5” Brook Trout we are excited to do for a wonderful client. They have been stellar, but for others asking the questions noted above, they have been patiently waiting since March 17 of this year, not a very long time, but we JUST NOW received a call that the replica is being shipped out. Now comes waiting for the blank to arrive and then, all of the prep work of getting it ready and addressing any flaws, setting fins, eyes, etc. (as long as there are no issues with the blank itself)
So we are already a few hours in on just checking with suppliers to find out who has the closest size form and that it is of upstanding quality. Now add in a couple more hours for the prep work before painting even starts.
Depending on the species and the difficulty of the patterns, additional aspects like matching fins, etc. we typically are anywhere from 8-18 hours on a paint job, with some larger jobs being upwards of almost 30 hours.
Now, there is part of the time involved. But after the call I just received, well… A blank for a fish, about the size of your forearm to the tip of your fingers, COST OVER $70.00 IN SHIPPING!!!
Again, this is not directed towards anyone and this client I’m referring to has been amazing so I’m not calling them out by any means in the slightest, but for those that ask why prices are what they are… Well… There is some of your explanation…
Unfortunately with these shipping and supply costs, we are going to have to do a price increase on our replicas for future clients. I really wish we could work for free, but sadly, we can’t. We will keep the price increase as minimal as possible but we are a business and have a lot of bills to cover.
Thank you all so much for your time, your support and your understanding.
