We lost poor widow last night...

Our hearts are so broken and sad here at the rescue. We took her in to be spayed Wednesday. What we thought was the right thing to do ultimately cost her her life and we couldn't be more devastated.

Although we are not 100% sure what it was that caused her shut down. The vets best idea was a post-op anesthesia response

Widow went into hyperthermia and her internal system began to fail her. Both her kidneys shut down and she had no response to touch or a blink response.

Widow was humanly euthanized around 12:30am last night when her heart rate began to drop

Widow you were so so loved for the time you were here at the rescue. Although your life was short you gave so much joy to those around. You were by far the happiest kitty we have ever met. Rest in peace widow

WE NEED YOUR HELP!

We are on our way to the emergency vet with our dear widow. We are worries she won't make it through the night. She was spayed Wednesday and tonight is unresponsive and trembling.

The initial visit will be 180 that's not including any medical care she will definitely need

Hay Beautiful people!

Today is a quick psa and public awareness post.

Although we specialize in horses Renewed Beginnings has rescued anything from a quail to a mustang. This includes bunnies. With Easter around the corner we felt it was important to talk about impulse animal buys, specifically with rabbits.

Each year around easter a dramatic increase of impulse rabbit buys spike. A cute fluffy small pet that pet stores teach costumers are an easy beginner pet that belong in a off the shelf cage; are bought for children as a "easter bunny".

There is a 95% increase of rabbits being dumped or surrendered to shelters. Meaning 95% of these bunnies are bought and then tossed away a week later. The false information surrounding rabbit care (and any other animal without proper research) is dangerous to all beings involved.

Rabbits require constant hay and WATER BOWL (not bottle, they drink as much as a small dog) supply. Fresh greens every day aswell as live free roam and litter box training like a cat; or a large expen with lots of free roam time.

Vet bills can be as little as 200 and as much as 10,000. They live for up to 12 years and are not as social as a dog or cat as they are prey animals.

This is just a small portion of the actual truth of the false information many pet stores or stigmas surrounding rabbits preach.

This is not just rabbits that impulse buys affect. Think before you buy! If you do buy, rescue

Research BEFORE you buy and stay committed to that animals well being after you bring them home. Animals are not a commodity to use when convenient and toss when not. If you know family or a friend that is considering, ask them if they understand what they are committing to.

This time of year means a few things: get ready for the hot and use daylight wisely... recover pens and runs and arena from winter, everyone is shedding like crazy, everyone desperately needs a bath, things need fixing like fences and doors winter broke and everyone needs vaccines, and deworming. If you are interested in helping mend wooden fencing, rake runs or pens, or yard, brush, wash, clip goat hooves, learn to vaccinate or deworm by helping reach out. Maybe you want to learn these things for your own animals and it's worth the trade in volunteering your energy for a day?

We have had a stint of household injuries lately with car accidents, falls and just plain getting old injuries and our bodies are lacking but the work isn't. Even Trooper jumped in on the limping train and wrecked his leg running 😅. If you're interested in volunteering your time if you're able bodied drop a comment or message and we will reach out to schedule a time that works for your interest. It's your kindness that keeps us saving horses from slaughter.
