Saturday Collective is coming 👀

I honestly love these because it’s one of the few times I get to just stand back and do what I started this business to do. Watching dogs come into their own is the best part. The quiet moments, the little confidence boosts, the dogs who start out unsure and then suddenly decide “okay... maybe this isn’t so bad.”

No chaos. Just dogs existing together and figuring things out.

Also... I may or may not have a pretty big surprise that day! Some of you are probably going to figure it out before I say anything but I’m wicked excited about this one!!

Just a reminder that both Recurve K9 locations will be CLOSED for daycare on Monday in observance of Memorial Day 🇺🇸🐾
As we head into the long weekend, we also want to take a moment to remember and honor those who made the ultimate sacrifice for our country.
We hope everyone has a safe, relaxing weekend filled with good weather, good dogs and maybe a small amount of shenanigans.😎

Some dogs come to us loud, chaotic and outwardly explosive.

Others come in quiet. Watching. Holding their breath. Waiting for the world to prove them right about being unsafe.

Blue is here for our behavior modification program and right now, some of the biggest victories are the smallest moments:
- choosing to lay down instead of pacing
- taking a breath
- resting near a person
- letting her nervous system soften for a minute

Behavior work is rarely about creating a “perfect” dog.

Most of the time, it’s about helping a dog feel safe enough to exist in the world without carrying the weight of fear everywhere they go.

And for dogs like Blue, that kind of trust is earned slowly, quietly and with a whole lot of patience. 🤍

I was never interested in creating perfect little robots. I got into dog training because I’ve always been drawn to understanding dogs on a deeper level; how they think, communicate and experience the world around them.

Recurve K9 was built around the idea that every dog is an individual and that training should focus on trust, structure and helping dogs feel more confident and understood.

Every dog is different and that’s kind of the whole point.

Some dogs do daycare.
Some dogs need a job.
For a Belgian Malinois like Layla, that means channeling all that drive, intensity and “I would fight the devil for a tennis ball” energy into purposeful outlet work instead of chaos.
This is one of Layla’s Trail level purposeful movement sessions. Structured tug, engagement, impulse control and learning how to work with her handler instead of just vibrating through the atmosphere at Mach 7.
A tired dog is nice.
A fulfilled dog is different. 🖤

Tomorrow = leash class day 👀🐾

Our Put Your Leash in Gear drop in class is back tomorrow at Recurve K9 and we’ve still got room for a few more dogs who need help remembering that:

- dragging your human is rude
- screaming at other dogs is unnecessary
- “sit” is not a constitutional violation

This class focuses on real world leash skills, handler engagement, neutrality, impulse control and learning how to exist in public without acting like a caffeinated raccoon.

Oh fun! Apparently the social media gods have decided to mess with me all week!

Just discovered that half the posts I painstakingly scheduled either:

1. Never made it to Facebook at all, or
2. Posted in the weirdest possible format like they were assembled by a raccoon with WiFi access.

As we all know, social media is my mortal enemy and I possess the technological grace of a caveman trying to operate a fax machine.

So if the posts have been slightly unhinged… no they aren't. It’s called ✨creative expression✨.

Sunshine, wagging tails, and… BUBBLES! ☀️🫧🐾

With warmer weather rolling in, our summer seasonal enrichments are officially BACK! That means more tail wagging fun with bubble machines, splash time in doggie pools and delicious frozen treats to help everyone stay cool.

Nothing beats watching our pups chase bubbles and soak up the sunshine, it’s what summer is all about! 💦🍦
