These pesky grass seed heads can embed and travel in your dog’s fur, ears, and even paws, leading to painful infections or emergency vet visits. Always check your dog’s coat after walks, especially in grassy areas, and keep an eye out for any signs of discomfort. If you have foxtails in your yard, pull them out asap. A canine planectomy is a surgical procedure that involves the removal of a specific anatomical structure in dogs, usually related to the nasal passages or sinuses. This procedure is often performed to address issues such as chronic nasal obstructions, infections, or tumors that can affect a dog’s breathing and quality of life. In Osito’s case, a planectomy was performed to remove the large tumor on his nose. By removing the problematic tumor, Dr. Lee aimed to improve airflow and alleviate discomfort, leading to better overall health and well-being. Osito’s recovery journey has been going well and while he may have a unique look, his quality of life has taken a wonderful turn for the better!

Meet Sora! He has been a donor dog here at AM PM Ideal Pet Care on several occasions. Transfusions can be the difference between life and death for dogs who suffer severe blood loss during surgery, an accident or from a critical medical condition. Shout out to Ginger’s mom, (the most recent recipient of Sora’s blood) for the adorable shirt. It was a perfect birthday gift as we just celebrated Sora’s 2nd birthday! 🎂 🐾 🐶

Meet Ginger, a sweet 14 year old girl who was admitted for a splenectomy when diagnostic tests found a splenic mass. However, in the operating room it was discovered that Ginger’s masses had invaded so much more. Given the circumstances, Ginger’s mom faced the tough decision of proceeding with surgery or letting her go. Recalling how Ginger remained by her side during her own battle with cancer, the decision was obvious, we had to try our best for her. Dr. Choi confronted the challenging surgery meticulously and with painstaking effort. Although he would not be able to remove all of the cancer, he would sure as heck try his best to get to as much as possible. Ginger is now bright, happy and playful. Not all success stories come with a perfect ending. While Ginger’s battle with cancer continues, she now has more time with her family and a better quality of life..and that is still a win in our book. 🫶

Two weeks ago Kratos the gentle giant, presented with two major concerns: a golf ball sized tumor in his lower jaw and an eyelid tumor that was irritating and causing an entropion condition. As pets age, we often must weigh the pros and cons of surgery. Senior dogs generally have higher anesthesia risks. Slower recovery, organ dysfunction, and other age related health issues can make the decision to move forward with surgery difficult. Kratos is 14 years old and not without health concerns. However, after considering all the risks and benefits his paw-rents felt he deserved a fighting chance to make his quality of life the best it can be for however long he would be with them. Today Kratos walked in to see Dr. Lee for his follow up and he looks and feels great! 😊👍

A Cystotomy is a surgery of the bladder. In this case a cystotomy is performed to remove bladder stones in a patient. Some of the symptoms of bladder stones can be: difficulty or pain when urinating, blood in the urine, frequently urinating small amounts, & abdominal pain. Surgical intervention despite possible complications has a high success rate and pets often need a modified diet after surgery to prevent reoccurrence. Dr. J.
