🎃🐾 TRICK OR TREAT! Keep Your Puppy Safe Tonight!

Halloween is exciting for families, but it can be frightening and overwhelming for puppies and dogs.

With the doorbell ringing, children in costumes, and the front door opening constantly, here are a few simple ways to keep your puppy safe tonight.

🐶 Prepare a food-filled Kong. Give your puppy something enjoyable to lick and chew.

🐶 Settle your puppy in a crate or quiet room. Turn on some soft music to help them relax away from the excitement.

🐶 Keep your puppy away from the front door. You don't want them slipping outside when trick-or-treaters arrive!

🐶 Don't force your puppy to greet children in costumes. Masks, hats, and unfamiliar clothing can be frightening.

🐶 Keep Halloween candy out of reach. Chocolate and sugar-free candy containing xylitol can be dangerous for dogs.

Remember, your puppy doesn't need to greet every trick-or-treater to enjoy a happy Halloween!

🎃🐾 Is Your Puppy Afraid of Halloween Costumes?

Wigs, hats, masks, and costumes may be fun for us, but they can be frightening for puppies!

In this reel, Nicky helps me demonstrate how to introduce Halloween costumes gradually using positive reinforcement.

Start by holding the wig or costume and letting your puppy look at it while someone offers tasty treats.

Next, have your child put on one piece of their costume while another person continues feeding the puppy treats. Gradually add more pieces as your puppy becomes comfortable.

Never force your puppy to approach something that frightens them. Give them space, go slowly, and help them associate costumes with good things!

Wouldn't it be wonderful if your puppy could settle comfortably on a mat while you're cooking, eating dinner, or answering the door?

🐾 TEACH YOUR DOG TO WAIT!

Did you know that WAIT is one of the most useful commands you can teach your puppy or dog?

I use WAIT every day with my two Italian Greyhounds, Nicky and Beezie! ❤️

🐶 WAIT means freeze, stop, and don't move until you hear another command, such as COME or OK.

In my new video, I'll show you exactly how I teach WAIT, beginning with a simple exercise using carpet and tile flooring.

You'll also see Nicky and Beezie demonstrating WAIT in real-life situations!

🎃🐾 IS YOUR DOG SCARED OF HALLOWEEN?

Halloween is fun for us, but for puppies and dogs, costumes, masks, skeletons, and ghosts blowing in the wind can be frightening!

In today's video, I'm sharing training techniques I've used in my puppy classes to help puppies become comfortable with unfamiliar Halloween decorations and costumes.

❤️ And I have a special story about Nicky!

Last Halloween, Nicky was so frightened by a neighbor's large pumpkin patch display that she backed away and crossed the street.

I didn't force her to approach. Instead, I gave her plenty of distance and used delicious food to help her feel more comfortable.

After several walks, she became curious enough to investigate!

This year, Nicky walks right past the same pumpkin patch without being frightened!

Does your puppy come running when you call, or does your puppy hesitate, ignore you, or run in the opposite direction?

Teaching COME is one of the most important behaviors you can teach your puppy. It can even save your puppy's life!

As the weather gets colder, is your dog ready?

Many dogs, especially short-haired breeds like Italian Greyhounds, need extra protection from the cold.

🐾 POTTY PAD TRAINING — STOP ACCIDENTS IN THE HOUSE!

Does your puppy p*e or p**p on the floor instead of using the potty pads?

Or does your puppy start on the pads and then walk away before finishing?

I recently received a question from a puppy owner who was struggling with this exact problem.

In today's video, I'm showing you a practical potty training method using a separate puppy potty pen.

This is NOT a playpen! It's a designated potty area without toys or a bed, where your puppy can learn to p*e and p**p on the pads without wandering away.

✔️ How to teach your puppy to go to the potty pads

✔️ When to say “Go Potty”

✔️ Why rewarding your puppy immediately is so important
