Operation Tail Wag-Pet Care for the Military

Operation Tail Wag was formed with the idea that a soldier being deployed has enough on their mind without having to worry about what to do with a beloved pet they must leave behind. Our intent is to provide temporary foster homes for these animals until the service member returns and is able to resume care. It would be easy enough to set this up and then make the soldier pay for the animal’s tran

sport, feed, vet care etc. But we feel we should go a step beyond that. Our intent is to provide all services at no cost to the soldier. Our foster screening process is very thorough and we just ask that you are very serious about your decision. We do not want someone who is not fully invested to the cause and commitment needed and required. They must fill out an application. We physically visit their home to ensure a safe, quality environment. We do background checks on them. If they have existing pets, we will need a meeting for the pets to meet and have an introduction. When a soldier applies for our services, we have a questionnaire, in an effort for us to know their pet, as well as they do. We have partnered with a veterinarian to provide initial health checks and ongoing vet care for the animals we foster. Every attempt will be made to provide the animal with a similar routine to their home. After all, this is not only hard on the soldier. Most often it is even harder on the pet.
