A fun game for the cold weather to help tire out your pup!

🎾 If your pup knows how to retrieve, start asking them to find the toy too!

Start easy! Put it in plain sight in the middle of the room and reward them for bringing it to you. Make it progressively more difficult!

🕵️‍♂️ Can they find it in the next room? Behind a bag? Under a blanket? On top of a chair? Upstairs?

👃Let them use that sniffer to find the toy!

Day Schooler Ernie is coming along!

🧘 One of the things I often work on with leash reactivity is relaxing and just hanging out. Ernie and I spent a while just watching the world go by. Doing that around triggers can be challenging!

🕵️ Being aware of your dog’s tell that he has spotted a trigger is really helpful in setting them up for success. Often, people will say their dog just loses it when they see another dog instantaneously. And, most dogs really don’t.

⏱️ The problem is you usually don’t have a lot of time. A second or two often. If you start really observing your dog’s behavior and movement, you’ll get better and better at seeing the early warning signs that they may need help.

Dogs can do a lot of things before barking and lunging:

↩️ turn their head or orient in the direction
👂 ears perk up or stop to listen
👀 start watching intently without blinking
😋lick their lips or yawn
😑 close their mouth tightly or pant heavily

When you see those things, that’s when you should be evaluating how much help is needed.
