• 19.5.3 - Updated Vaccination Records (Dogs, Cats, Ferrets):
◦ Rule: Grooming facilities must keep accurate and current vaccination records for all dogs, cats, and ferrets that are brought in for services.
◦ Specific Requirements:
▪ Rabies: Dogs, cats, and ferrets over 16 weeks old must have a current rabies vaccination.
▪ Dogs: Dogs over 8 weeks old need current distemper and parvovirus vaccinations.
▪ Cats: Cats over 8 weeks old need a current FVRCP (Feline Viral Rhinotracheitis, Calicivirus, Panleukopenia) vaccination.
◦ Exemptions: If a licensed veterinarian provides a written statement that a specific vaccination would endanger an animal’s life, that animal can be exempt from the requirement.
◦ Important Note for Exempt Dogs: Dogs that are exempt from vaccinations (due to a vet's statement) cannot be with or allowed to interact with other dogs in the facility. The written vet statement or letter must be kept with the animal’s records.
◦ Purpose: To protect all animals in the facility from preventable diseases and ensure a healthy environment and more effective traceability of possible outbreaks.
Reminder: According to 35-80-107, C.R.S., and PACFA Rule 8 CCR 1202-15, Part 19.1. Each licensee must keep and maintain records in the form and manner designated by the Commissioner as set forth by these Rules. The licensee must maintain requisite records at the physical facility address specified in the license application for a period of two years after disposition of the animal for which the record was originally made. All required records must be made available to any inspector authorized by the Commissioner during an inspection or upon request. Animals within records must be easily identified through organization method or identifying number.
