Last week, our two favorite guys—Eric and Joey—took 9 of our dogs out for an unforgettable run with Niall Harbison, a global dog rescue advocate, author, and founder of Happy Doggo! 🐾

If you don’t already know them:

🏃‍♂️Eric and Joey are two dog rescue influencers, known for their passion, consistency, and love for every dog they meet. From organizing our dog run club to taking pups for grooming and runs, they’re an unstoppable duo helping dogs shine every day.
🌍 Niall has made it his mission to change the lives of street dogs around the world, especially in Thailand, and is currently visiting shelters in the U.S. to shine a light on rescue efforts.

Together, these three champions of rescue gave our dogs the time of their lives. Watching our pups running alongside people who genuinely care about their futures? That’s what it’s all about. 💙

✨ Dog Day Out Review ✨

Featuring: Aurora and her slumber party

House broken: A+

Aurora had no accidents, she did not jump on or break anything, and liked to watch tv or lounge around. She seemed well house trained and ready to be in a home.

Car: A-
Some pacing but overall pretty good. Liked to look out the window and didn’t try to get to the front seat at all.

Play: A+
Loves to play bow in excitement and get the zoomies. Fairly gentle with toys and she didn’t nip at hands at all.

Walk: A+
Aurora rarely pulled on her leash at all. She did a very good job at walking past other dogs and animals. She doesn’t completely ignore them but listens well as you walk past and doesn't pull or lunge. M After long walks her paws start to get a little sensitive on the pavement, but she is completely fine to keep going while walking on grass or an unpaved trail.

Run: A+
Aurora is a great runner and good at keeping a steady pace. I don’t think she has enough endurance to go for long runs yet but I certainly think she can if she builds it up.

Engagement: A-
She does a lot better focusing on you off leash in a home environment. On leash she doesn’t maintain as much direct attention to you but still listens fairly well even when distracted.

Sleep: A

Slept very well. Was a little excited getting to bed but once she found her spot she slept like a baby for 7-8 hours.

Meal time: A+
Interested in human food but didn’t try to take it. She went to lay down after she realized she wasn’t getting any.

Water bowl: C
Fairly sloppy, but it would probably be easy to teach her to lay her mouth on a towel after drinking water.

The silent husky: A++
I had her for over 24 hours and she didn’t make a single noise except for some big yawns. There is definitely a chance she gets louder the longer she is in a home, but I don’t think she is going to talk back to you and complain like most huskies.

Overall Rating: Good Girl

If you want a friendly husky without all the sass Aurora is the girl for you. While she certainly isn’t one to throw a tantrum if she doesn’t always get attention, she still would probably like a home that’s active and can include her on adventures.

Meet Princess 👑

Princess is a 12-year-old female Pit Bull who came to us from Berrien County Animal Control after being surrendered by her previous owner. And true to her name, this sweet senior girl carries herself with quiet grace, warmth, and dignity.

With her soft eyes and gentle spirit, Princess has clearly weathered life’s storms—but she hasn’t let them dim her light. She’s calm, affectionate, and simply wants a peaceful place to rest her head. Whether she’s curled up on a soft bed, slowly trotting beside you on a short walk, or soaking up the sun through a window, she does everything with a sense of quiet gratitude.

Princess gets along well with people and dogs and would thrive in a calm, loving home where she can enjoy the comfort she so deeply deserves. She isn’t asking for much—just a family who will love her through her golden years, offer her a soft spot to sleep, and let her know she finally belongs.

Senior dogs like Princess have so much love left to give. If you're the kind of person who believes in giving second chances and cherishing every moment, Princess just might be your perfect match.

Today, we’re celebrating someone who usually works behind the scenes—but whose impact is felt in everything we do. 🎉💛

Happy Birthday to Vicki—aka Harleigh’s mom and one of Border Tails Rescue’s greatest behind-the-scenes heroes!

Vicki wears many hats here at BTR: she’s a full-time volunteer on top of her full-time job, our go-to for coordinating international transports, employee support, volunteer communication, capital improvements, attending events and more. Oh—and she’s also the Treasurer of our Board! And let's not forget to mention...the best support system for Harleigh!

As if that weren’t enough, Vicki also opens her home and heart to foster dogs—especially those with medical or special needs who require extra love and care.

She’s the kind of person who shows up without asking for recognition, who puts in the work quietly, and whose love for the mission shines through in every task she takes on.

Today, we want to give her the spotlight and thank her for everything she does for the dogs, the team, and the future of BTR.

Meet Sloth 🐾

Don’t let the name fool you—this 7-month-old Mastiff is anything but lazy! Sloth came to us from Berrien County Animal Control after surviving a traumatic dog attack that left him with significant tissue scarring around his jaw. Because of this injury, Sloth can't open his mouth very wide and will need to remain on a soft, wet food diet for life.

Despite his rough start, Sloth is a sweet, soulful pup with a heart full of love and the kind of face you just can’t help but fall for. He’ll be starting Gabapentin and joint supplements to help manage any pain and support his continued growth, and he'll need a family committed to monitoring his comfort as he matures.

Sloth is still growing—both physically and emotionally—and will thrive in a home that understands the unique needs of a large breed puppy. He’ll need patience, training, and a gentle hand to help him gain confidence and become the calm, steady companion Mastiffs are known to be.

If you’re ready to open your heart to a gentle giant-in-training who’s already overcome so much, Sloth is ready to meet you. He may need a little extra care, but the love he gives in return is more than worth it.

✨ Meet the Team Monday! ✨

Featuring: Tami, our outreach coordinator

"Tami Reding-Brubaker is a dedicated volunteer and Outreach Coordinator at Border Tails Rescue. After a successful 40-year career as a litigation attorney, Tami transitioned into semi-retirement with a mission to give back—and to stay active—by combining her love of dogs with meaningful volunteer work.

What began as dog walking quickly evolved into a multifaceted role at the rescue. Recognizing a need beyond the kennels, Tami began helping with laundry and soon became involved in organizing and supporting events both inside and outside the shelter. From working at Wolves games and the Chicago Auto Show to spearheading adoption events at local pet stores, Tami has become a driving force behind the rescue’s community engagement efforts.

She now leads a variety of outreach initiatives, including wellness events for employees at local businesses, adoption events at auto dealerships and has combined her passion for Pilates with her love of dogs by creating and hosting “Puppies and Pilates” classes at the shelter. These events not only support the health and well-being of participants but also help promote adoptable dogs and raise awareness and much needed funds for BTR.

Tami has had dogs her entire life and currently has a Golden Retriever named Bristol who she is training to become a certified therapy dog. She is also the proud mother of two sons, Tom and Kyle, who share her deep love for dogs. When not at the shelter, Tami loves spending time with her first grandchild, Brayden or traveling abroad with friends."

✨ Success Story Saturday ✨

Featuring: Casserole FKA Eliana

"This is Casserole, fka Eliana. We adopted her in March of 2024. I saw her on the website and couldn’t stop thinking about her. She looked so timid in her intake photo! She was a little unsure of us but once she met her sister Tater Tot fka Cashmere, she came to life. Once she got comfortable, her little sassy personality came to the forefront. She’s a sweet, silly, rambunctious little diva who loves pets and snuggle time, often offering her little belly for scritches. Her favorite thing to do is eat and she reminds us when it’s time for meals with great punctuality and passion.

Her tail wags so fast it’s always blurry in photos and she’s learned to walk on a treadmill this month to help her burn some extra energy. She loves snuggling with Tater Tot, often using her as a pillow. Cassie made us a multi-dog family and watching the bond she has with her sister grow and strengthen has been my greatest joy. She’s our little 8 pound demon and we wouldn’t have it any other way.

Thank you, Border Tails for bringing us yet another irreplaceable, life-changing dog to love."
