🧃 Want a perfect dog? Meet Juicebox. 🧃

Seriously. We’re not sure what else you could ask for.

Juicebox came to us through one of our volunteers after he was found as a stray. He was microchipped, so we hoped that meant someone was desperately looking for him — but despite attempts to reach his registered owner, no one ever got back to us.

So, Juicebox became ours. ❤️‍🩹

And we quickly learned that this boy is basically the whole package:
🐶 Dog friendly
🐱 Cat friendly
👧 Kid friendly
❤️ Human friendly
✨ Certified very good boy

There is just one little catch: Juicebox needs some repairs.

We discovered that he needs an FHO (femoral head ostectomy) on his hip, a surgery that will help get him comfortable and moving toward a pain-free future. We’ll take care of getting him what he needs medically — what Juicebox needs from YOU is a place to land.

He may have been a stray whose owner never came back for him, but we have a feeling his next chapter is going to be a whole lot better than his first.

Foster him. Adopt him. Fall ridiculously in love with him. 🧃❤️

Because if you’ve been waiting around for the perfect dog… we’re pretty sure he just showed up.

✨ Bibbity, Bobbity & Boo need a little magic. ✨

These three approximately 6-month-old Doberman puppies came to us as strays through Morton Grove after being found as part of a group of six puppies. The group was split up, with the other three pups going to another local shelter after coming in through Glenview Police Department.

Six young Dobermans. Dumped. Left to figure out the world on their own. 💔
And unfortunately, it shows.

Bibbity, Bobbity & Boo are undersocialized and scared. They’re not the puppies who are immediately going to run into your arms, cover you in kisses, and act like they’ve known you forever. Right now, the world is still a pretty intimidating place.

At only about six months old, they should be learning that people are safe, homes are comfortable, leashes mean adventures, and being a puppy is FUN. Instead, they’re having to learn all of that for the very first time.

What they need now are patient people willing to show them that humans can be safe. That a home can be quiet and predictable. That new experiences don’t have to be scary.
They are young, and they have SO much opportunity to grow. ❤️‍🩹

We would love to find foster or adoptive placement for Bibbity, Bobbity & Boo so they can get out of the shelter environment and start experiencing normal puppy life. They don’t need someone expecting a perfectly socialized Doberman on day one. They need someone willing to celebrate the little victories — the first time they approach on their own, the first tail wag, the first time they seek out affection, the first time they realize they’re safe.

Someone failed these six babies when they dumped them.

Now we get the chance to show Bibbity, Bobbity & Boo that their story can be different. ✨

Jellyfish Jelly still needs someone in her corner. ❤️‍🩹

This sweet girl was surrendered to us after being passed from one home to another. While in her most recent home, one of the children accidentally injured Jelly’s leg — and unfortunately, the break was severe.

Right now, we are fighting to save her leg.

Jellyfish Jelly is in a cast and will need weekly cast changes through the end of September while we give her body the opportunity to heal. At that point, we’ll have a better idea of whether her leg can be saved or if she will ultimately need an amputation.

But while our medical team handles the broken leg, Jelly needs something equally important: A foster or adopter. 🥺

She needs somewhere comfortable and quiet to recover. Somewhere she can rest, heal, and get all the love she deserves while we navigate the next several weeks of medical care.

And if the leg doesn't heal the way we're hoping? We’ll handle that too. If Jelly needs an amputation, Border Tails will make sure she gets what she needs. Dogs adapt incredibly well to life on three legs — and we aren't going to give up on this girl either way.

For now, it’s weekly cast changes, lots of rest, and fingers crossed for healing. 🤞❤️‍🩹
Jellyfish Jelly has already had enough upheaval in her little life. She shouldn't have to spend her recovery waiting in a shelter.

Welcome to Squishy Central. Population: one VERY tiny girl. 😭🤏❤️

We genuinely cannot handle how cute she is.

Squishy Central came to us through CACC diversion, and from approximately five minutes after she arrived, the entire building was obsessed.

She is SO SMALL. SO SQUISHY. SO PERFECT. And somehow, inside that teeny tiny body is the personality of an absolute angel. 🥹

Squishy does have a few medical things we’re working through. She has a heart murmur, some joint/limb concerns, and a few masses/growths that our medical team is monitoring and addressing. She’s also currently kept on a chicken-free diet.

But Squishy Central herself? She has absolutely no idea she has anything going on.
She is just happy to be here. Happy to be held. Happy to be loved. And we are VERY happy to oblige. 😭❤️

Sometimes a dog walks through the door and the collective response from the entire staff is basically “oh no… I love her.”

That’s Squishy Central.

She’s tiny. She’s precious. She’s an absolute angel. And we would like to formally apologize in advance to everyone who falls in love with her. 😂

Meet Boofy — 80 pounds of very good girl. 🤍🐻

Boofy came to us from a local police department after she was found as a stray, and we’re still wondering how nobody is missing this big, beautiful girl.

Boofy is a Great Pyrenees mix weighing in at almost 80 pounds, but don’t let her size fool you — she is an absolute sweetheart. She’s incredibly well-mannered, gentle, and has been nothing but lovely since arriving at Border Tails.

It looks like Boofy was recently shaved, so she may not be sporting the traditional Great Pyrenees fluff right now… but just give her time. 😂 We have a feeling there is a magnificent floof waiting to make its comeback.

For now, she’s giving us slightly naked polar bear. 🤍🐻‍❄️

We don’t know what Boofy’s life looked like before she was found wandering, but we do know she deserves a future where an 80-pound girl like her is VERY hard to lose.

Come meet our big, sweet Boofy. 🥹

From catch pole to cuddles… ❤️‍🩹

Gunnar is back at the shelter and ready to find his fur-ever person.

Are you looking for a monogamous relationship with a handsome, active companion? Because Gunnar is a romantic who hasn’t given up on love — he just needs someone who understands that the best relationships aren’t rushed. 🥹

Gunnar has been hurt before, and trust doesn’t come instantly for him, especially with men. But give him the time and space to decide you’re safe, and underneath that guarded exterior is an incredibly sweet, curious dog who wants to connect.

His dating profile includes:
🥜 Peanut butter Kongs
🌲 Long walks through the forest preserve
🛁 A relaxing sponge bath
👀 Meaningful eye contact
🐾 Holding hands — aka the paw of trust. IYKYK.
❤️ Quality time with his chosen person

Gunnar already has a great training foundation, including solid leash and potty manners, and he’s continuing to work on feeling comfortable in a crate. He isn’t leash reactive toward other dogs, but when he’s home, he prefers having his own space for eating, resting, and decompressing.

Gunnar isn’t looking for a whirlwind romance. He’s looking for someone patient enough to earn his trust and let the relationship unfold on his terms.

Because this boy went from needing a catch pole to asking for cuddles.

And if that doesn’t tell you how much potential is inside of him, we don’t know what will. ❤️‍🩹

Hey moms… can you relate? 😂🍼

Meet Xena, a very tired mother who is currently in her “I love my children, but if one more baby touches me…” era.

Full of milk? ✅
Kids constantly climbing all over you? ✅
Hiding anywhere you can get five minutes of peace? ✅
Touched out? EXTREMELY. ✅

Xena has been an amazing mama, but at this point, she is doing just about anything for a little break from her kids. 😂 The babies are fed, they’re thriving, and Mom is starting to look at us like, “Okay… when exactly do they move out?”

Motherhood is beautiful. Motherhood is magical. Motherhood is also sometimes sitting as far away from your children as physically possible while your b***s are still full of milk. 😭😂

We see you, Xena. Your child support obligations are almost over. ❤️‍🩹

And soon, this hardworking mama will get her chance to be someone’s baby for a change. 🥹

Meet Mojita 🇵🇷➡️🇺🇸💕

Some people come home from vacation with souvenirs. Our amazing volunteer and foster, Izzy, came home with a dog. 😂❤️

While on a trip to Puerto Rico, Izzy found Mojita wandering as a stray — and once their paths crossed, there was absolutely no way Izzy was leaving her behind. She was determined to get this little girl home to Chicago.

With a little teamwork, a lot of logistics, and one very determined foster mama, Mojita officially became a USA girly! 🇺🇸✨

And, of course, Izzy is fostering her. ❤️

When Mojita arrived, she was SO itchy and uncomfortable, but we got right to work getting her the care she needed. She’s already feeling so much better, settling into foster life, and learning that her days of fending for herself are officially over.

From the streets of Puerto Rico to a cozy foster home in Chicago — all because one person saw a stray dog and decided, you’re coming home with me. 🥹
