Excited for the warmer weather? We are too! 🌞

When heading to the great outdoors this summer, don’t forget a few key tips to keep your pet safe. ⤵️

👀Watch out for open windows and balconies. Make sure your pet is securely fastened to a leash if playing on a balcony or raised deck.

☀️Pets can get sunburns too! While their coats can protect them from most sunrays, they don’t have complete protection from sunburns. Look into pet-friendly sunscreens, especially if you have a hairless pet.

🌱Plant safely. Certain types of common garden flowers and plants can be harmful to pets if ingested. Keep an eye on their playtime in the backyard or garden.

The MedVet Chicago team was proud to welcome students from CICS Ralph Ellison High School for a special Veterinary Medicine Career Day!

Facilitated by Clinical Education Specialist Heather Bendishaw and supported by Drs. Katie Gundersen (Sports Medicine), Amy Heuberger (Emergency), Molly Shepard (Anesthesia & Pain Management), Diamond Taylor (Internal Medicine), and Sean Wyatt (Surgery), the event gave students a behind-the-scenes look at the world of veterinary medicine—from specialty care to hands-on education. Social Worker Claire Johnson and Client Service Representative Gretta Austin assisted with the event as well.

We’re always excited to inspire the next generation of veterinary professionals! A huge shoutout to the j.k. livin foundation for funding this visit.

MedVet Cincinnati is making a difference beyond their hospital walls! 🚒🐾

Caregivers from MedVet Cincinnati recently teamed up with the Covington, Northern Kentucky Fire and EMS Department (Covington Professional Firefighters Local 38) to train 75 first responders in Pet CPR and First Aid. From CPR techniques and oxygen support to patient handling and assessment, our team provided hands-on education to help protect pets during emergencies.

Huge thanks to Captain Kaleb Miller and his team for their dedication to the people and pets in their community. 🙌 And a big shoutout to our incredible MedVet educators: Tori Papa, Mason Bean, Christian Stewart, Haley Edrington, Kyle Relyea, MJ Wenger, and Clara Miller, who all participated in a stellar session.

Last but not least, extra belly rubs to our four-legged “teaching assistants” Alpine, Lennox, Koopa, and Buffy for helping make this training paws-itively impactful! 🐶

A common artificial sweetener that’s toxic to dogs, xylitol, can be found in many foods you might unknowingly want to give your pet as a celebratory treat this Memorial Day weekend: from baked goods to peanut butter to ice cream. 😨

Always check food labels before giving anything to your pets and know the signs of xylitol poisoning.

If you believe your dog has been poisoned by xylitol, it’s important to visit an emergency room right away. For more on xylitol poisoning in dogs, visit our blog: https://hubs.la/Q03nC_R80

Meet Jack, a sweet 10-year-old Yorkie who came to the ER at MedVet Toledo after suddenly becoming lethargic and refusing food or water — signs his mom knew needed immediate attention.

After a thorough evaluation and diagnostic testing by Dr. Barb Buford and our Emergency team, Jack was diagnosed with pancreatitis and admitted for supportive care. Thanks to quick treatment, close monitoring, and lots of TLC, Jack began to recover and show his signature charm once again.

We were overjoyed to welcome him back for a recent visit — tail wagging and feeling like himself! We’re so proud to have been part of Jack’s journey back to health. 💙

MedVet is celebrating National Nonprofit Day by spotlighting a very special program near and dear to our caregivers: the AVMF REACH Program.

We understand unexpected pet emergencies and specialty veterinary care may be a financial burden for pet families — this program breaks down barriers to access veterinary care by offering grants to over 100,000 AVMA members nationwide. Through the AVMF REACH Program and on behalf of our clients, MedVet veterinarians proudly support charitable care when financial barriers could keep patients from getting the care they need.

If you're interested and able to support pet owners in financial need, please consider making a donation to AVMF's REACH Program by clicking the donation link on this post.
