For those who are new here, I thought you might enjoy a little Lakota Haven story time. ❤️

Everyone meet Peterson. 🦊

Peterson was our very first fox in rehabilitation, and it's safe to say we instantly fell in love with him.

He arrived after being hit by a vehicle and was completely non-responsive. The vet at Pets Doc Veterinary Clinic helped us with this little guy, but even he wasn't sure he would make it through the night.

We began treatment and took things one day at a time. Slowly but surely, Peterson started showing signs of improvement. Every small victory gave us hope, and he continued to fight harder each day.

As you can see, Peterson made a full recovery. ❤️

Later on, we received another fox suffering from a severe concussion. Once they were both healthy enough, we were able to house them together so they could learn and grow as wild foxes should. Eventually, both foxes were successfully released back where they belonged.

Peterson started our love for fox rehabilitation and will always hold a special place in our hearts. He reminded us that even when the odds seem impossible, wildlife can be incredibly resilient when given a chance.

Have you been following Lakota Haven long enough to remember Peterson? 🦊❤️

💔 This little fawn’s story could have ended very differently.

He was attacked by dogs and suffered painful injuries, but thanks to quick action from caring people, he was rescued and is now safe at our wildlife rehabilitation center.

He has a long road ahead. Between specialized milk formula, medical supplies, wound care, and veterinary expenses, the cost of saving orphaned and injured wildlife adds up quickly. Every donation, no matter the size, helps give this little guy a second chance at life.

If you’d like to help, donations can be sent through the link below. If you’re unable to donate, please consider sharing this post to help us reach others who might be able to help.

🐾 Two intakes. Two very different stories. Let's talk fawn facts! 🦌

This time of year, we receive countless calls about fawns that appear to be alone. The most important thing to remember is that a fawn laying by itself is usually normal. Mom will often leave her baby hidden for hours at a time while she feeds nearby and avoids attracting predators to her baby.

✅ A fawn laying quietly alone does not automatically need help.
🚨 However, if a fawn is following people, approaching homes, chasing vehicles, following dogs, or seeking out human contact, that is not normal behavior and should be evaluated by a licensed wildlife rehabilitator.

If a fawn is following you:
• Keep pets and children away.
• Do not feed it cow's milk, deer feed, or anything else.
• Do not encourage it to follow you or become attached to people.
• Observe from a distance and note its behavior.
• Contact a licensed wildlife rehabilitator for guidance.

Other signs a fawn may need help include:
Constant crying for extended periods
Obvious injuries or inability to stand normally
Large numbers of flies, fly eggs, or maggots
- Severe weakness or dehydration
- Found near a deceased doe
Remember: The best thing for a healthy fawn is usually to be left exactly where it is. But a fawn that is actively seeking out people is telling us something may be wrong.
Please share this post to help keep well-meaning people from accidentally "rescuing" healthy fawns that simply have a mom doing her job. ❤️🦌

🐢❤️ Release Day for Jim Bob! ❤️🐢

In honor of his big release day with The Kentuckiana Scaletuary, we wanted to celebrate a very special turtle!

Jim Bob is the turtle that started our journey into turtle rehabilitation. Through his case, we had the opportunity to learn from Jordan as she trusted us with him and gain valuable experience helping native turtles in need.

We are incredibly proud to say that Jim Bob was released today! Since Jordan knew exactly where he belonged, she was able to return him to the perfect location. Watching him head back home is a reminder of why we do what we do. ❤️

Thank you, Jordan, for trusting us, believing in us, and sharing your knowledge along the way. We couldn’t be more grateful for your mentorship and support.

Good luck out there, Jim Bob! Go enjoy your wild and free life, buddy! 🐢🌿

Please help us celebrate by liking, sharing, and following our page! And if you haven’t already, be sure to check out and follow The Kentuckiana Scaletuary for all the amazing work they do for turtles and reptiles. ❤️❤️

🐾 14,000 by the Weekend? We Need Your Help! 🐾

Right now we’re sitting at 13,567 followers, which means we need 433 more people to reach our goal of 14,000 by the end of the weekend!

Every follow, share, comment, and invite helps more animals get the second chance they deserve. ❤️

Just look at these faces… 🦌🦝

The fawns, raccoons, opossums, squirrels, skunks, foxes, and so many others depend on people finding our page when they need help. The bigger our reach, the more lives we can save.

🙏 Can you help us?

✅ Invite your friends to follow our page
✅ Tag someone who loves wildlife

We know 433 followers sounds like a lot, but together we’ve done bigger things than that for the animals!

Who’s willing to help us get one step closer to 14,000 tonight? ❤️🦌🦝🐿️

Last time our page went crazy because of the doe in labor that we helped so we have not been able to draw a name yet so we will be drawing 2 names for a gift from the rehab.❤️
