💥Molly has been found!💥
We received several signings in the last few hours, and Molly‘s owner Alice went into the woods behind the person‘s house and her son John came in from the woods on the other side. John was able to use calming signals instructed by CTDGRV Sharon and was able to get her. When they saw her last night, she ran from both of them and he said the calming signals is what worked. A trap was set by CTDGRV Sharon but thankfully we didn’t need it as there are several skunks there. Molly had gotten sprayed last night and is headed for a bath!
Thank you to everyone that called in sightings especially to Allison for posting the sighting last night and the neighbor that called in the final sighting! Thank you to Molly’s owner’s John and Alice who didn’t stop looking, to Plainfield ACO Karen for helping search and to CTDGRV Sharon for helping search and setting a trap.
Welcome home Molly!❤️🐾

JUST SHAKE IT OFF

A “shake off” is one of many types of body language and is one of the easiest ones to notice.

The shake off can provide us with important insight as to how our dogs are feeling.

Besides being a very effective way to get rid of dirt, bugs or water - dogs can remove up to 70% of water in one single shake off - the shake off is often seen just after something that a dog needs a mental reset from.

It’s a way to flush out adrenaline and could be compared to us taking a deep breath to reset our nervous system and calm ourselves down.

Dogs instinctively know they feel better when they just shake it all off!

It’s their way of saying “Phew, I’m glad that’s over, now I can put it behind me and move on”.

Shaking off is a positive way to calm down, reset and cope with stress – be that negative or positive stress.

It’s a healthy way of transitioning from one emotional state to another.

It’s important to be aware that shake offs may sometimes be caused by an underlying medical issue like an ear infection, allergies, itching or pain.

If you notice a shake off, look at what has just happened beforehand. This will provide a good clue as to what it is that your dog feels they need to reset from.

💥🎉ONYX IS HOME SAFE!🎉💥

After 15 terrifying days Onyx is home!
I know this is a long story but this was one of the hardest cases that I’ve worked on in the ten years I’ve been with CTDGR. When Onyx got spooked he was unfortunately dragging a retractable leash. We did not have any sightings from Wednesday night when he ran off until Monday morning when he was running on the I-695 Turnpike! He was seen three times that day on the turnpike dragging the leash, but the handle was missing so he must’ve been able to chew it off. A trap was set off the highway but he did not come to it. We did not get any sightings again for three more days and the next time he was seen he only had a very short piece of leash so he must’ve been stuck again. The trap was moved to that location but again he left. Sightings started coming in, but every time someone saw him he got spooked and ran. At one point he was back on the turnpike and when someone yelled out to him, he ended up running 4 miles south into another town. Fortunately he returned the next day and once again crossed a very busy Rte. 6! We finally figured out that he could possibly be going to a house deep in the woods so CTDGRV Sharon went up and spoke to the people and they had seen him a few times so a trap was set there. The one time he finally found the trap it had just been closed because the homeowners dog kept going in it. Yesterday and today we had sightings on the other side of Rte. 6 in the same area. A second trap was set. A few hours later he was standing in a yard across from that trap, but someone spooked him and he took off. A few hours after that we got a call that he was back on the other side of Rte. 6 and quite a ways down Bailey Hill Road. His owner Ethan didn’t have a vehicle at the moment so he ran all the way down and someone said they saw him run in the woods. Ethan went into the woods and saw him. Onyx started to run but Ethan got down low and talked to him. Onyx realized who he was and ran to him crying and whining. He was so happy to see him! CTDGRV Sharon arrived and put them in the car and drove them home! He is skin and bones and exhausted. He will be heading to the vet. Thank you to Terry and his wife for letting Redcon One fly the drone on your property on the first day, to all the people that called in sightings, to Ruth, Scott, Rudy and the nice woman at Bailey Hill Villages that allowed traps to be set, to the Killingly DOT guys for keeping an eye out, to Onyx’s owner Ethan, Jason and Kat for releasing critters from the trap every night in the wee hours, for constantly searching and doing everything possible to find Onyx and to CTDGRV Sharon for spending everyday out there putting up posters, setting traps, going to every sighting and guiding Ethan and Jason who did everything they were asked to do! Welcome home Onyx!❤️🐾
