Bissell Pet Foundation rescue mission
A scan of the other rescuers here on the tarmac, waiting for the crates filled with dogs to come off the ramp
Precious cargo has arrived at Richmond, Virginia from Missouri! 146 dogs were rescued today from various commercial breeders and various breeds. We have three Shibas on this flight. A huge thank you to the Bissell Pet Foundation for arranging this flight!
Peaches
This is one of my own, her name is Peaches.
When I got her last year in March, she was afraid of absolutely everything. The air conditioner going on, any power tools, music, the overhead fan, the blender, you name it. She would shake and tremor. I knew enough to put her on an anti-anxiety soon after I got her (Fluoxetine). My plan was to put her on it for one year for the full benefit to take effect. In 9 months, I saw such a massive improvement that I took her off of it three weeks ago. Right now, I’m outside playing music loudly, the air conditioner goes on and off, and she’s just Chillaxing.
So for anybody who has a Shiba with heaps of anxiety, don’t eliminate some of the human pharmaceuticals . They can help deal with this with the advice of your vet. And and if your Vet is not willing to subscribe to this route, think about changing vets.
The sensitivity of these dogs cannot be understated. It’s often beyond comprehension with certain vets, how intelligent and sensitive the Shiba is. I am witness to that as I often discuss idiosyncrasies of the Shibe with vets we engage with, and I realize they are often an unknown breed to them if they don’t encounter them often. Feel free to PM me if you have issues with your Shiba regarding anxiety. We have a short list of over -the -counter supplements that have had good success and often we start with those to see if we can make improvement, before elevating to the prescription level. A few supplements to consider is Purina Pro Plan Calming Care, Elle Vet Sciences, Calm Shen by HerbSmith.

Lux is such a silly goofball! He is looking for a new home. He lived most of the time outside in a home with five other dogs and little children. He has shown our fosters that he is calm, friendly, playful, walks well on a leash and is crate trained. He has a nice temperament. CORRECTION: He is 2 1/2 years old and 32 pounds, we haven’t tested him with their resident Shiba yet, but we don’t think that will be an issue.

I don’t know about you, but I’ve always found the sound of animals eating, to be a peaceful and comforting sound. It doesn’t matter if it’s horses, eating hay, the guest opossum, rabbit, my ornery ram, or multiple rescue/foster dogs. Here is Peaches, rescued exactly one year ago from being a mill- mama at 4 1/2 years old, and she had five litters by then. Each night she eats her dinner on the couch because she feels comfortable sitting next to me to eat. This never gets old to see such contentment.
Progress with Chiba
Ben is making good progress with Chiba.
Please check out this well-crafted video of our recent alumni "Cypress" (formerly Meiko), one of the mill-mommas from upstate NY, now living in New York city with Harper and Dane! A positively incredible transformation! Thank you Harper and Dane!!!!
