Thankful this person took the time to share their experience. This is another important aspect of the for-profit 'Perfect Puppy' pet store: predatory interest rates (185%!?)
"Here’s my story.
My ex (will be referred to as MeX from now on) decided he wanted a puppy. He never discussed it with me until the day before, and I advised him that we should go to a shelter and find a dog that chooses us. The next day he called on FaceTime with Bela in the back seat. I was pi**ed that he did it without me since we had been dating for 5 years… but once I met her I couldn’t be mad. She was so cute and lovable. But him going without me, wasn’t the worst part… that was six months later….
MeX didn’t make a lot of money, and was terrible at saving and spending responsibly. When he got Bela, I asked how much she was. He told me that all he needed was $500 dollars down and they financed her, with no finance charges if he paid it off in six months. He financed $2000.
I didn’t question that, until about 6 months later when I asked him if she was all paid off… he told me that he received an email about 4 months prior that said there wasn’t money in his account when they went to take his payment out, and he had to pay the interest. He insisted there was. I asked him how much it was and he said “I don’t want to talk about it”.
I made him send me the paper work. I was shocked to see that the paper work was was basically a pay day loan- from a company in Utah (only state it’s legal) … and they circled and made him initial to agree to pay an interest rate that was 185%. He would never pay it off.
I put the $1900+ balance on my peronal CC - he had already paid over $1000.
Even after I paid the balance in full, the interest accrued another $165 by the time it cleared. I would never pay it off. I called them and they made the balance zero. Their website had a comment section and over and over again the biggest complaint was “they said there was no money in my account but there was”
We broke up shortly after and I got Bela - but they preyed on hearts that walked into that place to find a dog.
Screw that place!"
