Before & After: repair of a gingival cleft by use of a sliding gingival flap. In this dog, periodontal disease resulted in a defect of the gum tissue exposing the root of the canine tooth. This allows food and debris to become impacted, accelerating the progression of periodontal disease. Since the tooth root was still healthy in this dog, we created a flap of healthy gum tissue and transposed it over the defect. We also removed a small pink growth from the gums between the incisors.
