Animal Services ensures the health and welfare of both residents and animals within city limits by taking care of abandoned animals and preventing potentially dangerous wildlife-human

interactions. Animal Control responds to an average of 500 service calls each month. The Animal Shelter adopts out an average of 600 pets each year, finding new homes all across the country through adoptions and animal rescues. We work hard to create a city free of feral and unwanted stray animals. Our goal is to reduce the population through intense spay/neuter programs and strict enforcement of ALL North Little Rock city ordinances.

🐾 Meet Donkey 🐾

This big, handsome guy is looking for a home of his own.

Donkey is an XL Bully, approximately 5 years old, and he is an incredible 116 pounds of muscle, loyalty, and love. Despite his size, he is incredibly sweet and has shown no reaction to other dogs. He walks well on a leash, though he is a strong boy and will need someone capable of handling his size.

The good news: Donkey is HEARTWORM NEGATIVE! ❤️

He does have some skin, ear, and eye issues that will need treatment after adoption. Because of these medical needs, we are WAIVING ALL ADOPTION FEES for the right home.

Before going home, Donkey will be:
✔️ Neutered
✔️ Microchipped
✔️ Vaccinated for rabies

He has already:
✔️ Been dewormed
✔️ Received his booster vaccine
✔️ Received his Bordetella vaccine
✔️ Been heartworm tested

We have reached out extensively to rescue organizations, but they are already overwhelmed and unable to take on additional dogs. We're now asking the public for help finding this sweet boy the loving home he deserves.

If you live outside of a breed-specific legislation (BSL) area and have room in your heart and home for a giant cuddle bug, please consider adopting Donkey.

Even if you can't adopt, PLEASE SHARE. Every share helps get Donkey's sweet face seen by someone who may be his perfect match.

🐶❤️ Let's find this gentle giant the forever home he deserves.

🐾 Woohoo! It's Bindi's turn! 🐾

Our next longest resident came to us this year, and we're determined to help her find a home. Bindi has been with us since February and is more than ready to start her next chapter!

She's spayed, heartworm negative, and ready to go home today. Despite spending nearly four months in the shelter, Bindi has kept her happy, positive attitude and continues to win hearts with her enthusiasm for life.

Bindi is an energetic girl who would thrive with a fenced yard to run and play in or an active person who enjoys daily walks, hikes, or outdoor adventures. She has so much love and fun to offer—she just needs someone to share it with.

It's been almost four months. Let's make sure Bindi doesn't have to wait much longer for the family she deserves. ❤️

Interested in meeting Bindi? Contact us today and help us find this wonderful girl the home she's been waiting for! 🏡🐶

🐾 Important Information Regarding Stray Animals 🐾

We appreciate everyone who helps keep animals safe by reporting stray pets in our community. We wanted to take a moment to explain an important city policy regarding stray animal intake.

Our city policy does not allow us to accept stray animals through our front door. In order to discourage animals from being brought to us from outside of our jurisdiction, stray animals must be picked up by one of our Animal Control Officers from the location where they were found.

If you find a stray dog or cat and would like for us to impound it, please call 501-791-8577. Our staff will gather your contact information and the exact location where the animal was found, then dispatch an officer to pick the animal up from that location.

Our vehicles are equipped with GPS tracking, which allows us to accurately document where each animal is picked up. This information is incredibly important when trying to reunite lost pets with their families. If someone reports a missing pet from a particular neighborhood, we can review animals picked up in that area and compare descriptions to help make a match.

When an incorrect pickup location is provided, it can make these reunions much more difficult and delay pets getting back home where they belong.

We are grateful for everyone who takes the time to help stray animals and notify us when they need assistance. We simply ask that you keep this policy in mind and contact us for pickup rather than bringing stray animals to the shelter.

Thank you for helping us serve our community and reunite lost pets with their families. ❤️🐶🐱

A couple of weeks ago, we made a post asking for volunteers willing to foster nursing moms and kittens.

We work closely with Community Cats of Central Arkansas, and they have once again stepped up to help. This past week alone, they pulled another dozen cats and kittens from our shelter. They are overwhelmed, exhausted, and doing everything they can to save lives.

Community Cats takes in our kittens that are too young to survive without their mothers. They help cats that are sick, injured, or have special medical needs. They provide a lifeline for some of our most vulnerable animals.

One of the best ways we can support them is by finding foster homes for nursing moms and kittens. Every foster placement opens up space for Community Cats to continue taking in animals that need urgent medical care and specialized attention.

If you are interested in fostering, please comment on this post or send us a message. We will forward your information to Community Cats of Central Arkansas, and someone from their team will contact you to explain the process and answer any questions.

You will not be thrown into this blindly or expected to do it alone. Training, resources, and support will be available every step of the way.

Please consider opening your home to help save lives. Even a temporary foster home can make a tremendous difference.

UPDATE: WE HAVE THE BEST NEWS!!! HEIDI IS ADOPTED!!! WE COULD NOT BE HAPPIER FOR HER!!!

We've shared her story. We've featured her in posts. We've taken her to events. She's gotten extra playtime, extra treats, and even a funny fake bio because she's our longest resident.

And through it all, Heidi has remained exactly who she is: happy. All. The. Time.

She's a staff favorite for a reason. Heidi is energetic and playful, loves hanging out with her dog friends, and is always ready for an adventure. But she's also a champion napper who knows how to relax after a fun day.

As a Heinz 57 mix, Heidi is available to any family willing to give her a chance.

We've had a few people express interest recently, and we're crossing our fingers that the stars finally align for her. Until then, we'll keep sharing her face and telling her story, because she deserves so much more than a kennel.

Heidi has been here through most of the holidays. Through the storms, the cold, and now the summer heat. She has been here for every season.

Still waiting.

Please consider adopting Heidi. If you're not ready to adopt, take her on a Doggy Day Out and give her some extra enrichment. Or simply come visit her and show her that she's not invisible.

She's been waiting a long time for someone to choose her.

Maybe that someone is you. ❤️
