💛 A quick note from Dr. Katy 💛

I’m so grateful to be trusted by so many families during such a meaningful and emotional time. Right now, every call, text, email, and Facebook message is answered directly by me—and while I truly want to help everyone, it’s becoming difficult to keep up with the volume of messages asking about pricing.

To make things easier, I’ve made all pricing completely transparent on the website. You’ll find detailed costs for house call euthanasia, as well as cremation options and their pricing.

Please check there first if you’re looking for this information.

Thank you for your understanding.

Paws at Peace LLC offers in-home euthanasia services in Northern Indiana and Southern Michigan, providing a tranquil passing for your pet in their familiar surroundings.

“You’ll know when it’s time.”

That’s what so many people are told when facing the decision of euthanasia. But what if that clear moment never comes? What if you don’t get the “aha” feeling that people talks about?

The truth is, it doesn’t usually happen that way. Sometimes the decision feels foggy, complicated, or full of doubt. And that’s okay.

I don’t believe there’s one single “right time” that fits every family or every pet. Some people choose to say goodbye sooner, not wanting their beloved pet to suffer even a moment. Others hold on through every good day, wanting to make sure there truly are no more left.

Both choices come from love. This decision exists on a spectrum—and what feels right for one person may not feel right for someone else. There is no universal formula, just a deeply personal process.

If you’re wrestling with this choice, please know: you are not alone. It’s okay to ask questions, talk it out, and take the time you need to decide what’s best for you and your pet.

No one can make this choice for you, but you don’t have to carry it alone. I’m here to support you—gently, without judgment—every step of the way.

‼️A Note About Scheduling At-Home Euthanasia Appointments‼️

I want to start by saying how deeply honored I am to be part of such an important moment in your pet’s life. Providing a peaceful goodbye at home is something I believe in wholeheartedly, and I wish I could offer this service to every family in need, right when they need it most.

That said, I want to be transparent about what’s possible. I am currently the only provider offering in-home euthanasia in this area, and both Dr. Jessy and I also work full-time jobs outside of these appointments. Because of this, our availability is limited.

I often receive messages from families hoping I can come within a few hours or later the same day. As much as I wish I could say yes to these urgent requests, the reality is that we typically need about a week to schedule an appointment.

This is not an emergency service, but rather something that ideally should be planned in advance—before your pet is in crisis or experiencing significant suffering. I know that can be incredibly difficult to think about, but early planning allows us to ensure your pet’s passing is as gentle and stress-free as possible.

Thank you for your understanding, patience, and trust. It means everything.

We are so lucky to be alive at a time when we get to spend so many extra years with our best friends!

😼 The average lifespan of domestic cats has increased in recent decades. It has risen from seven years in the 1980s to nine years in 1995, to about 15 years in 2021. Several studies have investigated the matter and have come up with noteworthy estimates. Estimates of mean lifespan in these studies range between 13 and 20 years, with a single value in the neighborhood of 15 years. At least one study found a median lifespan value of 14 years and a corresponding interquartile range of 9 to 17 years.

Maximum lifespan has been estimated at values ranging from 22 to 30 years although there have been claims of cats living longer than 30 years. According to the 2010 edition of the Guinness World Records, the oldest cat ever recorded was Creme Puff, who died in 2005, aged 38 years, 3 days. Female cats typically outlive male cats, and crossbred cats outlive purebred cats. It has also been found that the greater a cat's weight, the lower its life expectancy on average.

🧬 A common misconception in cat aging (and dog aging) is that a cat ages the equivalent of what a human would age in seven years each year. This is inaccurate due to the inconsistencies in aging as well as there are far more accurate equations to predict a cat's age in "cat years". A more accurate equation often used by veterinarians to predict cat years is 4x + 16, (x being the chronological age of the cat) which works for two or older cats.
In one study of cat mortality, the most frequent causes were trauma (12.2%), renal disorder (12.1%), non-specific illness (11.2%), neoplasia (10.8%), and mass lesion disorders (10.2%).

🌈Update on Scheduling Availability 🌈

It has been very busy, and I want to thank everyone for their patience and understanding. Normally, I can schedule appointments within 2–3 days, but right now, it’s closer to a week out.

If you are starting to think about when the time might come, it’s a good idea to text me several weeks—or even months—ahead of time. Not necessarily to schedule an appointment but just to get on my radar. This helps me plan better and allows me to be more available when the time truly comes.

As always, I will do my best to accommodate urgent needs, especially if we have been in touch before the appointment is needed.

Thank you for trusting me to help your beloved pets cross peacefully.
