Good news - days are getting longer and Spring is hopefully coming soon!
Bad news - more daylight signals your dog to blow it's winter undercoat.
As many of you know my Maremma hates getting in a car. Now that I drive a truck it is almost impossible to get him to the salon for a proper groom. I spent an hour this morning brushing and combing (on my livingroom floor) and got out a Kroger bag of undercoat - more to come!
It is easy to run a brush through your dog, it looks pretty good, and believe they are not matted or impacted. In order to insure a brushing session has been successful is to use a comb after the brush to get to the the root/next to the skin.
Thank goodness, this is not my picture (the coat should not come off in one piece) but I have had to do this before. The matting/impaction can be painful for the dog and the groom is painful (heartbreaking) for the groomer.
At minimum a full brushing every other week is ideal for most dogs.
I'm hopeful the worst of winter is behind us!

2024 has been quite a rollercoaster for my family. Thank you for hanging out in the front car! You all are much appreciated. I hope you have a wonderful Christmas and are fortunate enough to have family to surround you.
Minnow's spay went well although being her drama self, for a week has barely got up and is acting as if her system can only handle treats and peanut butter 🤔

Good morning Moxie Mutts family. I know you all have been thinking of us and your thoughts and prayers are much appreciated. Uncle Ron went to be with Jesus early this morning.
I'm not sure yet what this means for the upcoming week but I will be sure to call you if your appointment must be rescheduled.
With a loan groomer you get the benefit of my love, dedication and individual attention for your pup. Unfortunately, the flip side is there is only one of me. I will do my best to accommodate all while taking care of my family. You are the best!

This is a hot topic among groomers and pet owners alike. I am happy to report, I follow the same advice given in this article. Some should, some shouldn't and as all things grooming - each dog is different and should be evaluated as an individual.

This noisy little salon dog (Minnow) tried Fastcat for the first time this weekend. She was a little hesitant at first but caught on quickly with 4 qualifying runs. This is a great way to spend time with your 4-legged friend and meet others passionate about dogs. Tally-ho!

Well, I was just doing a little happy dance yesterday that I only had to minimally shovel twice this winter. Who knew rain could cancel a day of work. Thank you to you who understand, I will reschedule as quickly as possible. 245 went from one lane to under water in 20 minutes! Be careful everybody!
