Small classes and private consultations are offered in puppy socialization, family manners,

dog agility, flyball, therapy dog preparation, Canine Good Citizen training and testing, and preparing your pets for the arrival of your new baby. The Dogs’ Spot, located in North Kansas City, MO, is a 15,000 square foot indoor facility that is fully air-conditioned and heated for year around comfort, and fully matted with Great Mats Dog Agility matting. The Fourth of July is approaching quickly! It is a day when many pets get spooked and run. While we hope it never happens, it's better to be prepared than not. Make sure you pet has an ID tag to wear with your current contact information. Take a few photos (not like you don't daily anyway!) so that you have a recent image.

It's also a good idea to check your microchip registration information - have you updated it? Is it one that you need to pay an annual fee keep all of your information linked to you pet? Have you had you pet scanned to make sure it can still be detected by a microchip reader?

The Fourth of July is approaching quickly! If you're not sure how your (new) pet will handle fireworks, or if your pet is mildly bothered, you can work now to create a better and calmer association with them and other loud noises. Find a recording and play it at a very low level while playing with your dog, or feeding them their meal or treats. Your pet must be able to hear the noise but should not appear concerned in any way. If they do, turn the sound off and play it more quietly or further away next time.

Repeat this process, with the sound growing a little louder or closer as your dog is clearly happy and comfortable eating and/or playing.

The Fourth of July is approaching quickly - are you prepared?

If your dog is bothered by the fireworks, talk to your vet to discuss your options and their recommendations. Don't wait until a few days before! Other options include traveling to an area where you and your pets won't hear fireworks, or boarding them in a safe, familiar, and hopefully more soundproof facility.
