I recently had a friend contact me with a concern... I can't say a question because she already knew the answer but wanted verification on what she was feeling.
She works in an office and someone had come in saying they had a litter of labs in the car, she is a huge animal lover so of course had to go see them! SHE WAS NOT PLANNING ON GETTING A PUP- but of course fell in love with one of the little chocolate pups and decided she needed him! She went cash in hand to get her puppy and was absolutely heart broken when she got there to pick him up. This person lived in a 1 bedroom trailer ( no judgement on that) but had this litter of pups, a mixed breed litter that was a week old and another litter due in a week. The litter that was 8 weeks old was all shoved in a crate ( p**p and p*e covered) in another crate there were 3 adult dogs and in yet another there were 4 adults crammed in one. The trailer was dirty... animal waste dirty. This was not what she had in her head when she thought of a breeder! Unfortunately there are breeders like that! If course she still got the puppy- who could leave a little pup that stole your heart in that environment!?
My point to this is always check where the pups are coming from- people like this is what gives breeders who care, who raise their pups with love a bad name. Make sure they are kept in a clean environment with plenty of human contact, ask what type of food they are fed ( obviously should be a good quality) ask about health clearances ( that is not a guarantee, things happen but at least an honest effort to keep healthy lines) and if you happened to stumble on something this horrible do not be afraid of making a call to animal welfare. I am not saying start turning everyone in for every little thing but these are huge things. This is not a life for these adult dogs and certainly not a good start for these poor pups!
Sorry for the long post but people like this really stress me out! They are exactly the reason people are so against breeders...and I completely understand!
Also need to add- I believe things happen for a reason- she will be the voice that tries to help these dogs.... they needed her to speak for them!
