21 years ago, I took a very long ride into a dark unknown. I had hope I could help with animal rescue activities in Mississippi and New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina, and do something that made a difference.
Two weeks later, I drove back with 7 dogs and puppies in a friend's SUV. And three days after getting home, I was on a plane to Mississippi.
That was over 13,000 animals ago.
I met incredible people, I lived in their homes, ate their food, and saved the animals in their communities. I cried with them, consoled them, begged them for help, begged some for humanity, and just saved the next one. And the next one.
And one more.
In Defense of Animals took over in March, and the Sprinter is still on the road, and the southern babies are still headed "up north." It changed my life. And I'll forever remember the lives we saved and the lives we lost. Thank you for all of your support over the decades.
