First Snow of Winter, 7 January 2024, North Berwick, Maine

I had for my winter evening walk—
No one at all with whom to talk,
But I had the cottages in a row
Up to their shining eyes in snow.

And I thought I had the folk within:
I had the sound of a violin;
I had a glimpse through curtain laces
Of youthful forms and youthful faces.

I had such company outward bound.
I went till there were no cottages found.
I turned and repented, but coming back
I saw no window but that was black.

Over the snow my creaking feet
Disturbed the slumbering village street
Like profanation, by your leave,
At ten o’clock of a winter eve.

Come and observe all the wonderful alpaca fiber hand crafts we will be demonstrating - carding, spinning, luceting, weaving and more! Learn how to properly care for these majestic animals, too, in general sessions presented by members of the Maine Alpaca Association. Live alpaca care demonstrations will be held at 1 PM, 2 PM and 3 PM.

Farm life in the Time of Covid is lonely! I miss having folks stop by to say hello and offer up a few carrots to the appreciative alpacas. We are thinking of scheduling "distance visits" in the Fall. Visitors will need to book in advance and wear a mask while on-site. Adult admission would by $6. Children 5-12 would be $4. Children under 5 would be free. Family group tours would not exceed $25.00 for the whole family.

Tracy and Susie enjoy a snuggle on a beautiful Winter afternoon.
